she tried to remember the first moment she had fallen in love with him.
maybe it was the time when he drove past her house in his truck, the sun resting on his face like an angel gracing her presence. maybe it was the time when he accidentally bumped her in the halls and kept walking. that moment was normal to him.
it was momentous to her.
that was the only time he had ever touched her.
the bell rang, and she gathered up her heavy books and deposited them into her backpack.
she passed by her friends, still chattering without her, a vision of him in her head.
she brushed out the door, a faint smile on her lips, her head trained towards the ground.
even when she bent her head to the ground, she was still too tall.
her shoes pattered across the tiled floor, trained not to make a noise in contrast of the loud and harsh conversations in the hallway.
she sighed and pushed another short piece of her hair behind her ear.
she would always be the one who stood out; the one that did everything right; the goody two shoes everyone else talked about behind her back.
she wondered what they were saying about her now.
-
he needed to know her name.
she was all he was thinking about.
she was tall. she had scattered hair, brown glasses, and eyes that seemed to shine brown.
she knew him, but he didn't know her.
no one knew anything about her. she was a mystery; a puzzle that had no solution. the only thing people knew about her was that she was tall.
he laughed to himself as the bell rang, saving him from the disapproving glares of his teacher. he swore she kept a grudge about every bad thing the amazing tristan did.
he gathered his backpack and slung it across his shoulder, his girlfriend in hand. she leaned up to his ear and whispered raunchy things about the home ec teacher. he smiled and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
his girlfriend was blonde, short, and had green eyes. ever since the first day of freshman year they had been a couple. most of that time was spent apart. today was a good day.
he let her guide him through the halls to his english class, passing the calculus class on the way. he hated calc. that was the one thing he hated about senior year, other than how he was the golden boy of the school.
as they swam through the river of people, he leaned over and whispered under his breath to the occasional acquaintance about a 'tall, dirty blonde girl with brown glasses.' no one knew who she was.
this girl was perfect. she seemed perfect to him. no one talking about her behind her back, no one spreading rumors about her, no one knowing everything that went on in her life.
he wondered why.
