Epilogue

Four months passed before the trial had occurred. During that time, Lucy had written a book about her experiences, and it almost instantly became a best-seller. Something good came out of her horrific experience, because she had made millions from it within the three weeks of publishing it. It was all over the news about what had happened, and everybody had been talking about it. To the public, it was the most horrific thing that anybody could ever encounter, and they wanted to hear the inside story from a survivors point of view. At the trial, "The Leader", whose real name was Michael George Peters, was charged with six murders. Ruth's murder was excluded because it was not him who had actually killed her. Ruth's relatives knew that justice was brought to them anyway because Emma had been killed herself.

Additionally, Peters was charged with the kidnapping of nine people, as well as the torture of them all. The judge even said that Peters was the most insane person to have ever walked the planet. Because of the compelling DNA evidence and witness statements against him, Peters was found guilty of all charges, and in total, he was sentenced to a minimum of sixty years, meaning that he would be in his late nineties, should he ever get out. Both Lucy and Paul gave witness statements voluntarily, because they knew that they needed to. Despite having to come face to face with the person who did all that to them, both Lucy and Paul were proud to have done it.

After the sentencing finished, Lucy and Paul met for the first time since they had escaped the house.

"How have you been?" asked Lucy.

"I've been better", replied Paul, "but it's the thought of waking up to my family every day that keeps me going".

Nothing else was said other than that. Lucy and Paul then hugged each other, and vowed to at least try to move on with their lives.
