Chapter 3

The first night in those beds was horrendous. Nobody went to sleep at all - they were all too busy thinking about the upcoming months. The night was long, and that made everybody think that every night was going to be long. Everyone was thinking the same thing - am I going to die? That was all they had to think about. The room was as cold as ice, as if it had been deliberately made that way by The Leader.

Lucy wanted to know who this person was. He must be some sort of lunatic, she thought. Then she thought, is he watching us now? Is he getting pleasure from watching us suffer? He must be absolutely insane, thought Lucy. After a disgracefully challenging night, the sun finally rose, although nobody in the house knew that as there were no windows in the place. The lights in the house turned on, implying that they had to get up.

Then, a large alarm sounded to wake the contestants up.

"This is The Leader", the voice said, "if you do not get up within thirty seconds, you will all die".

Horrified looks spread across the room. This terrified everybody in the room. Immediately, they shot out of their bed and ran out of the room.

"I wonder what's going to happen today", Emma said to Margaret.

"I dread to think", replied Margaret, who was still shaken about the whole thing.

At breakfast, the entire house ate porridge, as that was all that was given to them. Ray started the conversation.

"Well, has anybody thought of any ways out of here?" he asked. The others at the table looked at him.

"I don't think we should discuss that", replied Ruth, "if this person hears us, we might all die?"

"You really don't believe that, do you?" said Piers.

"Of course I do", replied Ruth, "this person, or group of people, are utterly insane, and they have stuck to their word so far". Piers got up and walked away from the group.

"Why does he keep walking away?" asked Ruth.
