"Mmm something smells good." I heard my mum say once she entered the kitchen. I stopped stirring the pasta and kissed her cheek. "Hey mum. How was work?" I asked as I turned back to the pasta.

"It was good. They were all really nice to me. How was school? I hope you concentrated in your classes." She said sternly.

"Yes I did. And it was fine, I made some really nice friends." I smiled, adding the sauce and mixing it with the pasta.

"Oh that's great! No one gave you trouble then?" she asked lightly.

Yes. Tyler O'Brian did. "Nope. They're all really friendly people there. The foods almost ready so go put your stuff down and eat." I informed her.

She laughed and exited the kitchen as I put a plate of food for the both of us.

Once we were done eating, I cleared the table and went up to my room to continue the homework I started on when my phone started vibrating.I Picked it up and read Amanda's name on the screen.

"Hello?"

"Hey Em! Did you ask your mum about the dance on Friday?" Amanda asked cheerfully.

"Oh, you just reminded me now! Hold on, I'll ask her." I told her, before putting the phone down and running to my door.

"HEY MUM, THERES A SCHOOL DANCE ON FRIDAY. MAY I PLEASE ATTEND?" I shouted.

"Does it interrupt your studies?" I heard her say back. I thought about it. If I did my homework during school, then it shouldn't...

"NO, IT WON'T!"

"Okay then sweetie, but you'll have to be home by 11P.M!"

"That's fine. Thank you!" I closed my door and ran back to my phone.

Once I put it to my ear, I heard Amanda laughing. "I'm guessing you heard the answer?" I smiled sheepishly, even though she couldn't see me.

"You're so nice! 'May I please attend?'" She imitated in a sugar coated voice.

I started blushing and mumbled nothing in particular. "I'll have to finish my homework before I leave though." I informed her.

"Don't worry; you can do that while we do your hair and makeup." She said flippantly.

I froze. "O- Oh. I don't think I'll be allowed to wear makeup..." I trailed off.

"What?! Why wouldn't you be allowed?" Amanda started laughing. "Don't worry Emma, it's a dance, I'm sure your mum wouldn't mind. Plus, you know you look stunning without it, so with it applied the right way? I think I'd probably turn lesbian for you." She joked.

I started laughing before turning serious before. "But, um... I don't think I've ever worn it before." I bit my lip, embarrassed.

"WHAT?!"

"I don't think-"

"No, no. I know what you said. What do you mean?! You're like 17, aren't you?"

"Yes...?"

"And you've never put on lipstick, mascara, and eyeliner, blush, eye shadow, nothing?" she asked in disbelief.

"Oh, well I used to put lip gloss on. But I stopped that and started using lip balm because it was shiny and annoying." I shrugged.

"Oh honey. You've been living under a rock haven't you?" it was more of a statement then a question.

"Why have I been living under a r-"
