Out of Time ❧ Kai Parker ✓

Chapter Sixteen

I walk with Kai through the woods. He holds the ascendant while I carry an axe. I see Bonnie and Damon ahead of us. Damon is playing with a stick while whistling.

I hear them start to carry on a conversation but I tune it out. Instead, I look over at Kai, he looks happy to be able to get out of this place. But I have this feeling that Bonnie and Damon are going to backstab us.

As we start to approach them Damon says, "Me, I say, because I will kill Kai, Angelyn, and anyone--" Damon does a playful jumping stance with the stick. "--who comes in the way of me going home."

I walk over to Damon and Bonnie. "I heard our names. All good I hope." I say looking between the two.

Kai has the Ascendant in his hand and he uses it as he looks up and blocks the sun from his face with it. "The eclipse will happen directly overhead." Kai looks at Damon and Bonnie who are shooting him glares. "In perfect alignment with the Gemini constellation." He looks toward Damon, who looks right back, angrily. "You need to dig into the tunnels below us."

"Why?" Asks the witch.

Kai pauses for a second and speaks to her slowly as if she were a young child, "Have you never portal-jumped through an eclipse before?" When Damon and Bonnie don't look amused he takes a step forward. "Okay look, the light of the eclipse will shine down and activate the Ascendant, you spout a little witchy woo and then poof!" He gestures an explosion with his hands, and  Bonnie raises her eyebrows. "Anyone standing in the circle of light holding the Ascendant goes home."

"By 'witchy woo', I assume you mean the spell?" Bonnie uses to which Kai responds by nodding his head. "Let me see it."

Kai pauses and we share a look. "When the time comes," I tell them.

We step forward and push past them. "Where are you going?" Damon asks

Kai doesn't look back at him as he answers, "Into town, I need to... gather some important supplies."I follow Kai with me and he leaves Bonnie and Damon and heads into town.

I grab my sketchbook and some pencils while Kai gets his pager.

When we arrive back where Damon and Bonnie are we see that they have started digging a hole.

We approach them coming from the woods with a backpack. Kai was wearing the backpack and I put my stuff in there with his.

"Looks like I got back just in time," Kai announces as he sets his bag down.

Damon zooms forward and snatches the pack, he tears it open. And begins reading what's inside. "Zima, grunge, every Alex Rodriguez rookie card is known to man, a pager, and a sketchbook and pencils. Really?" He looks at me, "You know they have those things in the future, right?"

Damon drops the bag on the ground. "555-Hiya-Kai, no way I'm giving those digits up."

"These are the important supplies you needed to get?" Damon asks while Bonnie suspiciously watching the two from the dirt she's sitting on. I walk over to her and sit beside her.

"Look. The future sounds great, all right? I'm super excited about the Internet, but 1994 has been my home for most of my life. I'd hate to get homesick. So let's get down there--" Kai says before he is interrupted by Bonnie

Bonnie walks forward, "No." She pushes Damon out of the way, who attempted to stop her. "We are not going anywhere until you show me the spell."

I start to grow nervous as I stand up and walk over to Kai. I hear him say okay, he stands still, basically saying that they aren't going.

"Are we literally not going anywhere?" Damon asks.

"Fine, you don't want to show me the spell? Then you can do it yourself." Bonnie tells Kai. He smiles, suspiciously. "You... want my magic." She holds out her arm. "Take it."

Kai looks over at Damon, "Uh-oh, she's being brave."

"I'm serious Kai! This was your big threat, wasn't it? If I do the spell and let us out of here, you'll just take my magic, leave me for dead, and do the spell yourself. So go ahead. Take all of it." I have a bad feeling about this.

Damon looks worried, and I look at Kai, and Kai looks down at Bonnie. "Don't mind if I do" He slaps both hands on her shoulders and she yelps in pain, nearly going limp in his arms.

I hear her tell Damon that Kai won't kill her and it's true because we need her.

Kai releases Bonnie with a mischievous smile. Bonnie, regaining her composure realizes something. "He doesn't know the spell. Which means we don't need him." Bonnie raises her hand, "Motus." The ax Damon was using to attack the ground soars through the air before burying itself into Kai's chest, whose eyes widen as he falls on his back.

"NO! No!" I scream as I few tears fall down my face. I look over at Bonnie and hold my hand up and she starts screaming in pain. Damon looks over at me, "Good thing that it's not night, or else you would be dead." I tell him.

He speeds over to me, "Well lucky for me you are now dead." I hear him say as he snaps my neck.
