“I’m losing my best friend.” I told my pillow before I fell asleep. Niall was becoming more famous and we didn’t talk as much as we used to. Millions of girls loved him and the new boyband he was in, One Direction. I watched every episode of his and watched every video diary. They made me laugh, but they also made me sad because I knew that with every diary they do, the more famous and popular they get.
I couldn’t sleep, so I went downstairs to get a glass of water.
“Can’t sleep?” My brother asked me. He was currently at home during a break from University.
“No. You?”
“Nah.” I looked at the clock. It was only midnight so it wasn’t too late on a Friday night.
“I feel like I’m losing Niall, you know?” I asked my twenty-two year old brother.
“I know,” He said to me. I sat down at a bar stool and drank my water. “And I know something that might cheer you up.”
“What?” I asked him. He turned around and opened a drawer and pulled a piece of paper out.
“This,” He said and slid it towards me. “It’s a talent show that’s in two weeks.”
“Jace, you know I don’t like to sing in front of crowds.”
“I know, but it’s time that you show the world that you can sing. Your showerhead wants the world to hear you too.”
“Oh and now you talk to my shower head?” I asked him, sarcastically.
“No, but you need to let people know that you’ve got this incredible voice. Don’t hide in the shadows. Shine,” My brother looked at me. I looked into his blue eyes that were the same as mine.
I thought about it for a moment, “Fine, but only if you do the instrumentals for my song.”
My brother played guitar with Niall when he was still here. Tears welled up in my eyes as I thought about my best friend that had probably forgotten about me by now.
“I will.” My brother agreed.
“Great, well, I’m going back to bed.” I told him as I finished off my water.
“Night,” He said as I walked out of the room.
I grabbed my iPod and looked through my playlist. I wasn’t a big country fan, but I would listen to it now and then. I loved Rascal Flatts for some odd reason though. I put my headphones in my ear and cranked up the country tunes. I would always listen to these songs whenever I missed Niall. I listened to a few songs before I drifted off to sleep with tears still wet on my face.
I woke up the next morning around ten and knocked on Jace’s door. He answered it, and I could tell I had just woke him up, but I had to tell him I knew what song I wanted to sing.
“I want to sing ‘My Wish’ by Rascal Flatts.” I told him as I played with the bottom hem of my shirt.
“It’s because of Niall isn’t it?” He could see right through me.
“Yeah. Every time I hear that song, I think of him.” I told him honestly.
He understood, “Well, we need to practice then.” He grabbed his guitar and sat on his bed. I sat next to him and he started to strum the strings. I belted out the lyrics. I felt a small tear roll down my face and I wiped it away before my brother could see it.
