Chapter 8

"Where's our food?" Gio whined while I tried desperately (but failed) to stir the pot in reverse.

"Look, I'm trying to cook here so stop pressuring me." I said and tried to stir the pot again.

Anna was sitting in the kitchen counter, watching me, laughing while Gio was scowling at me. Ugh. Why is it so hard to cook? I thought angrily.

Ring. Ring.

I grabbed my phone from the counter and placed it between my shoulder and ear. "What?!" I snapped at whoever was calling because his or her call is really bad timing.

"Hello to you too." the voice from the other line teased. Shane.

"What do you want?" I grumbled and gave up on stirring. I put the lid back on the pot and lowered the fire of the stove.

"Well the new Spiderman movie is out and I wanted to know if you wanna watch it." he said cheerfully.

Why don't you ask Christa. I thought. "Can't. My parents are out and I'm babysitting"

"Where's our food?" Gio whined again.

"Shuuuush!" I said to Gio.

Shane laughed. "Why aren't you  Mary Poppins today."

"You shush too." I grumbled angrily.

"Uhm Khales?" Anna's hesitant voice rang through the kitchen. Smoke. I smell smoke. I turned around and saw the pot boiling. Fire of the stove raging angrily and smoke clouding around it. I shrieked and placed my phone on the nearest counter and turned the stove off swiftly. I opened a window and waved away the smoke. Phew. That was a close one. I opened the pot to see a blackish, burnt substance. Yikes. Really, really close one. I thought.

"You guys okay?" I asked a horror stricken Gio and Anna.

"Yep. Are you?" Anna asked shakily.

I tried to laugh. "Yep. Atleast now I know that I can't be a 5 star chef."

"Now what are we gonna eat?" Gio whined. I was about to answer when I noticed my phone on the counter. Oh right. Shane. I grabbed it. "Still there?"

"Yepp! Open your door please." he said.

"Why?" Ding dong.

"I'll get it!" Anna volunteered, then ran off.

"I have a surprise!" Shane said.

Just then, Anna reentered the kitchen with Shane holding his phone and grinning. "SURPRISE!" he said then hung up.

Huh. Shane's here. Okay. I'm not really annoyed with him anymore but I still don't know how to react around him because of yesterday so uhm.. Awkward. Somebody, help. Okay Khaels. You can do this. "So, where's the surprise?"

He pouted. "I'm the surprise."

"Lame." I said.

"Psh. I went all the way here and this is what I get?" he continued pouting, distracting me from my thoughts.

"Why are you here?"

"I'm treating you all to lunch and SpideyMan!" he declared.

"Yayy!" Gio and Anna squealed excitedly. Traitors.

"But my parents.." I tried to reason out.

"Leave them a note on the fridge or text them or something" he shrugged and turned to Gio and Anna. "Go get ready you guys." and then they scampered off.

I rolled my eyes at Shane. "You never give up do you?"

He grinned dorkily and winked "Never."
