"Hello there, my name is Alexandra Murphy. I'm a recent graduate from Standford Law; I just moved here for work. Would you be interested in meeting with me sometime to chat?" I say as the computer types my words in the email. "And sign, and send," I mutter, sending the email.
Oh, no. He's not going to respond to that. I groan and close out the email tab and open the YouTube tab. I check my channel and sigh. I haven't posted in a long time; my followers probably think I'm dead or something.
I grab my camera and set up my filming station. I begin to record and I smile.
"Hey, what's up, you guys? My name is Alexandra Murphy if you didn't know. I can assure you all that I'm not dead, just incredibly busy. I guess I should tell you guys where I've been the past... month. Well, I graduated from law school and moved to LA. I can promise you guys that I won't go a month without uploading again, but I've just been so busy. I don't know when this will go up, but I just wanted to fill you guys in on my life and assure you that I'm still alive." I stop filming and sigh.
My laptop dings and I click on the email notification that pops up. No way he answered so quickly.
"Stanford, eh? What's a girl like you doing looking for work with someone like me? I'd love to meet with you to talk, especially since I know your name from YouTube. I can meet you at Starbucks this Saturday at 10 am. If you send me your phone number, I can text you the address and we can discuss this more."
He didn't sign the email. Of course not. I send him a reply back with my phone number and a cheeky "you better not try to murder me" before I close the laptop.
My phone dings now with a text from him.
I save his number and smile. I have two days to prepare for what could possibly change my life.
Saturday morning, I wake at seven and go for a run. I return at eight and shower quickly. When I'm out and my hair is dry, it's already 8:35. I change into a pair of black slacks with a gray tank top before I do my makeup. I finish at 9:30 and I begin to panic. I have no idea how long it will take to get to the Starbucks where I'm meeting him. I slip my feet into the Louboutin heels I bought as a graduation present last month. I slide on a black blazer and grab my large Louis Vuitton purse my dad gave me when I graduated high school. I slip my laptop and wallet into the purse before grabbing my keys and phone.
I head out to my car, a black Mustang that I've been driving since I got my license. I'm almost twenty-four now, so it's been around for nearly nine years, and it's still kicking. I'll be driving it until it breaks down.
I check the time -- 9:50. I'm so going to be late.
I speed to the Starbucks and enter at 10:05. Not too bad, even though it's literally only two miles from my apartment.
I see him. I feel ridiculously overdressed, especially as I take in his uniform of black pants, a black T-shirt, and a black hat.
I approach him and I smile. "Hello."
"Alexandra Murphy?" He asks; I nod. "I'm David Dobrik."
I sit across from him and smile. "God, you're so different than I imagined."
"Is that a good or bad thing?" He laughs.
"It's not bad; it's just, you're what, twenty-two almost? I didn't picture you like this." I shake my head.
"We can't all be dressed for the office." He motions to my suit.
"I'm a lawyer, Mr. Dobrik. This is my uniform, much like that is yours." I smirk.
