God's Plan

In the week following Dom's surprise, we spend every night wrapped up together in my apartment. We only leave for work and the occasional outing with friends. I've never been happier.

"Dom, I need advice," I say.

"What's up?" He asks, peering over the top of the laptop balanced in his lap.

"I had someone contact me the other day. A talent agency. Not to represent me, but to hire me as their attorney." I bite my lip. "It'd be a real job compared to working for David. But I love working for David."

"But you want a real job, don't you?" Dom nods.

"Well, yeah. It's been fun, but I think I need to go somewhere else. And this agency is going to be very good for me. They've already offered me a starting bonus and vacation time. And they have health benefits, which I don't have working for David." I sigh.

"Are you trying to convince yourself to go for it?" Dom asks.

"It's not that I'm convincing myself, it's that I need a reason to leave David," I say.

"I think it's time, babe. Go call that agency and take the job. Sure David will be upset, but you can still see them, you just won't work for them." Dom hugs me.

"Thanks, babe." I smile.

"I'm proud of you." He kisses me on the forehead.

I call the agency and take the job. Now how in the world do I break it to David?

I put it off. Weeks go by and I still don't tell David. My job starts April 5th, which is now only a month away. I have to tell David. So, I call him and ask if he's at the vlog house, which he is. I let him know I'm coming over and that we have to speak.

When I pull up to the house, I nervously sit in my car for roughly five minutes before I force myself to get out. I enter the house and find David immediately.

"We need to talk," I say, biting my lip.

"Yeah, sure." David shuts his laptop and turns to me. "What's up?"

"Like, in private." I motion to the unused bedroom.

We go in and David sits on the bed. I stand in front of him and take a deep breath.

"I've been offered a job with a talent agency as their attorney. I've accepted the position. So I guess this is my notice." I bite my lip.

"Do you really want a different job?" David asks quietly.

"I know that I'm ready for something else," I say.

"Did we do something to make you want to leave?" He frowns.

"Oh, no. Absolutely not." I shake my head.

"Why then?" He questions.

"David, I know it's not what either of us expected, but it's God's plan. I have to do this." I sigh. "I loved working for you. I'll never forget everything you did for me. But I have to do this for me."

"Are you sure about what you're getting into?" David asks.

"I wouldn't be doing this if I weren't sure." I nod.

"I wish you nothing but the best." David hugs me. "Let me throw you a going away party."

"I'm not really going away." I laugh. "I can still come hang out with you guys. I just can't work for you anymore."

"Is it the money?" He asks. "Because I can raise your salary."

"It's not about the money, David. Listen, I love your content, I really do, but I believe that my new clients have so much potential and they need my help. I have to help them, David. It's what I went to law school for."

"I trust you."

We hug and exit the room. Everyone else is waiting, staring as we enter the den.

"Hey, guys." I sigh. "I have something to tell you."

After several hours of tears and laughter, I leave the house feeling much better about my decision to leave.

I head home and Dom is there. I lock the door behind me and lay on the couch next to my boyfriend, who is editing a video.

Looking up at him, there is no place I'd rather be.

"I told David today," I say suddenly.

"How'd it go?" Dom asks.

"Pretty well, I think. He's going to throw me a going away party." I sigh. "I know this is the right thing, but I feel so bad."

"You shouldn't. Babe, you needed to do this, right? So you shouldn't feel guilty about it." Dom kisses my forehead.

"I know. I just... the past eight months have been a dream. I mean, if you had told me a year ago I would be working for David Dobrik, I would have been overjoyed. But I this new job is like a reality check."

"What exactly is this new job?" Dom asks.

"I can't really give you any details on that. I don't know for sure. But I do know that I'm going to help people who are so deserving." I smile.

"I'm happy that you're happy." Dom kisses me on the cheek.

"Let's go out tonight," I suggest.

"It's Wednesday." He laughs.

"And? We only have a few weeks before I start a real 9-5 job." I say as I wrap my arms around his shoulders.

"How can I say no to this?" He grins.

"I'll go get my coat." I grin widely.

"Babe, it's March in Los Angeles, you don't need a coat." Dom laughs.

"Um, right." I roll my eyes and we head out.

At dinner, I stare at Dom with lovestruck eyes. I can't believe how much I love him.

"Penny for your thoughts?" He asks, taking a sip of wine.

"I love you so much, do you know that?" I grin.

"I know, babe." Dom grins before he stares at his ring on my finger. "We could make that real, you know."

"Dom, we just got back together." I shake my head, laughing.

"Obviously not right now, but one day. You could be Mrs. DeAngelis." Dom grins.

"At that point, I'd have to have my doctorate." I grin. "Doctor and Mr. DeAngelis." I laugh.

"Now that's just evil." Dom shakes his head.

"Do you really want to get married?" I ask when our laughter quiets.

"I do. I know that we're not ready for that right now, but I already know you're the one I want to spend the rest of my life with."

My heart stops. I feel tears prick my eyes, but I force them to stay in. "You're the one I want to spend the rest of my life with," I repeat, grinning.

Dom reaches across the table for my hand and he gives it a squeeze. "Love you."

"Love you more."
