3RD PERSON P.O.V

Josh looked into Simon's room, unable to spot his best friend straight away. He walked further in before noticing the door to the balcony was open, a rare sight as it was freezing and Simon never used the balcony.

He found Simon on the floor, leaning against the wall which looked over their garden. He pulled his ZRK LONDON hoodie's sleeves over his hands and bravely walked out onto the balcony, sitting down next to Simon.

"I don't know what to do Josh," Simon said.

Josh sighed, unsure of what he could say to help Simon. "What does she want?", he asked.

"She doesn't think long distance will work," he calmly said. "And I don't get why, we already travel a lot so it's not like we've never spent time apart, we sleep at different times, I don't know..," he ranted as if he were talking to himself.

"Could you manage long distance?", Josh asked in an equally calm voice.

"You don't think I could?", he challenged Josh.

"No, I'm just asking, what do you want to do? If you guys couldn't do long distance then what?", Josh asked. He was always the wise one in the group, asking the hard questions that needed to be asked.

Simon tucked himself further into a ball, trying hard to hold onto his own warmth. "I don't know Josh, what if I don't find someone as perfect as her? I don't think I would be able to live with myself for letting her go."

Josh sighed, a cloud of cool air escaping his mouth. "You're not letting her go, she's always gonna be there. Just because long distance might not work out, it doesn't mean you've lost each other."

Simon nodded, somewhat agreeing.

"Will you be okay?", Josh asked, concerned about the state he was witnessing Simon in. In all the years he had known him, Simon was always positive and playful, rarely this solemn.

Simon nodded again, "I'll try make it work," he said. "We'll make it work," he convinced himself.

"Can we go inside now?", Josh asked, waiting for Simon to stand up so that he too could escape the cold.

They both welcomed the warmth of Simon's room, and Simon quietly thanked Josh before heading downstairs to find his girlfriend.

He found her on the black couch, lying down, staring up at the ceiling, so lost in her thoughts she didn't hear Simon walk in.

"Hailey," Simon said quietly as he entered the room.

Hailey's head whipped up as she watched her boyfriend come towards the couch, standing behind it.

She sat up, eager to hear what Simon had been thinking about for the past hour. "I don't want to break up," he said, his hands tucked into his hoodie's pockets.

She nodded and waited for him to continue.

"I want to try long distance," he stated, looking into her eyes.

"Simon," she said in almost a warning tone.

"Please, Hailey," he begged, cupping her face as she leaned on her knees to reach him. "What will we lose by trying?"

She closed her eyes and leant into his hands, small tears starting to fall again.

"If we just ended it here, could you be happy with going back without even trying?", he asked, wiping away her tears with his thumbs.

"Okay," she whispered, "we'll try."

Simon kissed her gently before enveloping her in a hug. Her arms wrapped around his waist tightly, threatening to hold on forever.

"Do you still want to come with me to the wedding tomorrow?", he asked.

She nodded, determined to not let the sadness of leaving dampen the mood of her last few weeks.
