Hux could tell from across the room that this woman was not okay.

She and her mother stood at the tall table, beautiful, proud, smartly dressed, and over all elegant. A perfect image. The wife and daughter of a first order General.

It would take someone very observant to notice.

There were tiny, practically minuscule, signs of distress.

The gentle looks exchanged, the caring smiles shared between each other, the timidness to mingle. They stood, as if awaiting instruction.

He watched as a man approached, smiling to his wife, and his eyes landing coldly on his daughter. Hux watched the way the daughters body language changed. She gave off the air of a warrior, a guardian, peering through the crowds after her mother, keeping a watchful eye.

This girl was not as simple as she may seem.

This girl had felt more than her fair share of pain.

Her hair was tied in an chignon, and she wore a long dark grey dress. As Hux strode towards her he watched as her quiet stance let off a discreet aura of fierceness, her eyes still fixed on her mother across the room. She looked slightly startled when he greeted her, but a friendly smile quickly overtook her face.

"Oh hello there!" she said. "Good evening. I couldn't help but notice that you were standing here all by yourself and thought you may like some company." he said smiling slightly.

"Oh, why thank you sir, you really don't have to-"

"Here, I'll put it this way, I'm sick of being stuck in a room mingling with a bunch of greasy politicians, and you look like a far more enjoyable conversation partner." He leaned forward against the table shooting you a boyishly humoured look.

"Well okay then!" she said with a laugh. She too then ditched the perfect posture and leaned against the table, smiling. "What would be the topic of these interesting conversations."

"How about your name?" He looked at her.

"Ah, yes, a formal introduction!" She said humorously, standing up straight, and sticking out her hand. Hux did the same and shook it. "Y/N, Y/N Novae." She said shaking his hand furiously, trying to hold back giggles.

"General Armitage Hux." he grinned.

He watched as her posture immediately changed. "The-The Armita- I mean- My apologies General-"

"Calm down, calm down, you don't need to be all formal." She looked at him, her eyes softening slightly, and a small smile pulling at her lips.

"You're a lot different than I had heard..." She said looking at him.

"Yes, how so?" he inquired. Y/N blushed slightly looking at her hands. "Well... I just didn't expect you to be so-" He interrupted her "Friendly?" he raised a brow at her.

Again she began to stutter and apologize. "I-Im sorry sir, that was out of place..."

"Nonsense," he silenced her "there is no need to apologize, I know very well my public image, and quite frankly it serves me well. Please don't feel as though you've mortally offended me, besides, if you do, apologies wont save you, I'll have you killed anyways."

Y/N looked completely horrorstruck for a heart beat before realizing that he was joking. She started to laugh and relaxed once again.

They talked for quite some time, about what planets they had grown up on, interesting facts about themselves. This woman stuck him as very intelligent. She spoke seven different languages fluently, and eight more partially.

The way she stayed in the corner of the room shocked him slightly. Most people like her would be out socializing, but here she was, drawing as little attention to herself as possible. He was quite fond of her already.

Mid way through telling her about what life was like for him on the Finalizer, she stopped smiling and straightened her self back up, bowing her head ever so slightly. Hux was about to ask what was wrong, when suddenly, he was greeted by the man he had seen earlier.

"General Hux! A pleasure to finally meet you." Hux recognized this man, as General Corona, who ran one of the star-destroyers in a separate fleet. He nodded, and shook hands with the shorter man.

Corona strode around to the side of the table that Y/N was on. "I see you've been talking with my daughter. She hasn't been bothering you has she?" He said with a slight look towards her.

"No, not at all. We've been having quite a lovely chat really." He said giving Y/N a warm smile. She smiled back, but this time it looked slightly forced. "I did not however, get to ask you Miss Novae, where you are stationed?"

The girl opened her mouth to speak but then shut it almost immediately, as her father spoke up for her. "She does not have a job. You see, she is just not quite competitive enough, and just can't seem to get her head in the game. We figure we should keep her out of everyone's way, seeing as she can't seem to find a valuable role in the order."

He looked at her and his tone became slightly condescending. She looked up at her father and forced another smile, though this time her eyes were full of pain. Hux was shocked, and slightly unbelieving that he had just said that about his own daughter in front of some stranger. It was deliberately aimed to completely embarrass her, and degrade her. But the next part was what really bothered him.

It was again just the tiniest thing, that only someone like Hux could notice, but as her father continued, telling that they would just have to find her some planet to go work on, that his loyalty to the order meant that he could not allow someone like her to join it, he brought his hand down to rest it on her shoulder.

And she flinched.

The tiniest, possible movement. Barely the twitch of her shoulder. Barely a wink.

But Hux saw it. It broke his heart, because in that moment he completely understood what she had gone through. He knew it. And he knew how she felt. Perhaps thats why he did what he did next.

"Well, sir, I hardly think you should have to worry about that anymore, because I would love to hire her. I have been looking for a new assistant, and after talking to her and giving her our little interview just now, I believe she will be perfect for the job." He smiled. Both of they're jaws dropped.

"Oh- but- General-" Started Corona, but Hux cut him off, "I must insist sir, someone with my reputation, and commanding such an important ship as I am needs to be very specific with who they look for to hire, and I just don't think I'll find anyone else like Miss Novae here. I assume, you're available to start tomorrow?" He then turned to the girl, who looked bewildered but ecstatic. She nodded eagerly.

"Now, she will need to pack-" Corona tried to argue, But Hux once again cut him off. "My apologies General Corona, but I will be needing her assistance immediately, you can send the rest of it to her sometime this week. Whatever she needs currently will be supplied for her."

"Now really, sir- she  doesn't want- I can't- May I have a quick word with her alone?!" Corona demanded, but Hux took a slightly menacing step forwards. "No, I don't think there will be time for that, I think there is just enough time for a quick goodbye, yes?"

General Corona seethed, but red faced nodded, patting his daughter on the shoulder, and walking away, mentioning that her mother could say good bye another time.

Hux turned to her and studied the girls face. Y/N stood there open mouthed and completely baffled. She turned to him blinking, "What just happened...?" she questioned.

"Your'e life just got a lot better."
