About 2 days after our first date, I received a text from Ben.
——————————
Hey! I was thinking
I'd pick you up at
4:00 today. That
sound okay?
——————————
I was nervous that he wouldn't text after the first date, I thought the small peck might've thrown him off or sent bad signals. Obviously, getting the text proved all of that to be false, and filled me with excitement.
—————————
Sounds perfect!

I must have rewritten the text 5000 times before sending the 2-word response. I decided I'd dress up a little, of course, I hadn't thought to ask where we would be going. I hoped that a sweater dress paired with small booties and a thin scarf would be okay for the mystery date I'd be attending.
I pulled the burgundy sweater dress out of my closet and hunted for my black booties. After about 15 minutes of searching, I found them underneath my makeup desk. I looked at myself in the mirror, admiring my choice of clothes.
"Knock knock!" Sarah emitted. I was frightened by the sudden loudness of Sarah's voice in my quiet room.
"Ooh, whats with the outfit? *GASP* ARE YOU GOING OUT WITH BEN AGAIN?!?"
I didn't have time to reply before Sarah practically pushed me into my makeup chair and ran back to her room. I looked in the mirror again, slightly picking at one of my acne spots.
"Stop picking, we'll cover it up!" Sarah emerged from the door carrying what must have been 3 tons of makeup. After 30 minutes of her beating my face with beauty blenders and makeup brushes, Sarah had "completed" the makeup look that was never asked for.
Sparkly gold eyeshadow, false lashes, matte burgundy lipstick. I have to give props to her, I looked stunning. I checked the clock and saw that in about 15 minutes Ben would arrive to pick me up for our date. I grabbed my black clutch, placing my ID, credit cards, and phone inside.
*knock knock*
I walked to the kitchen door confidently at first but soon very nervously. The short walk was just long enough for me to think of all the things that could go wrong. I opened the door, showcasing Ben leaning against the doorway propped up on one arm.
"Wow. Y/n you look...... wow"
I was blushing profusely, and looking down at the floor hoping Ben wouldn't see how giddy I truly was.
"Anyways, let's go, shall we?" He said, holding his elbow out for us to hook arms. I wrapped my wrist around the crook of his arm as we walked down the few steps to his car.
Ben drove us to the pier, where we boarded a ferry. The destination was a while away, and the sun was now going down. We walked to the far side of the boat, where we were offered champagne and small appetizers by many members of the staff. The boat headed out of the marina, and Ben and I stood at the edge watching the water.
Bens hand slowly crept from the railing over top of mine, and his fingers laced with mine. He looked incredibly nervous and wore it well. I inched closer to him and laid my head on his shoulder, letting him know it was fine.
"Thank you, Ben. This is really nice" I thought. I rephrased multiple times, trying to think of the best thing to say and the best way to say it. My thought was interrupted by a voice.
"Thank you, y/n, for agreeing to go out with me again. This was -uh- this was really nice. Thank you"
"Thank you for taking me out. And giving me your number. And wanting to go out again"
Our gratitudes were followed by light chuckles and more of us staring out at the ocean below us. It felt so comfortable, being with him. I must have been shivering or something because Ben unlaced our fingers and took off his jacket. He placed it over my shoulders.
"Oh- no I'm fine. I don't want you to be co-"
"I will be fine. You look freezing"
I admittedly was cold, so I accepted the gesture reluctantly. Ben stood with his back against the rail, looking out into the crowd of people who had been on the ferry with us. His arms were outstretched to his sides, and I admired his stance. He was absolutely gorgeous, lean and tall.
After we arrived back at the marina, we departed the ferry and started the long walk back to the car. My hand hesitantly started towards his from my side. Ben sensed my movement and did the same, our hands linking together in the walk.
We finally arrived at my apartment.
"Thank you, again. That was really, really nice"
Ben didn't say anything. He continued to look into my eyes and back down at the floorboards. His arm moved up to the back of his head.
"Yeah, um. Yeah" he said, biting his lip. Now, I'm in no way an expert on dates and kissing, but I knew for damn sure that this was it. That this is when it should happen.
