"Okay y/n, lets see if we have a baby in there!" Dr. Wilson said as she applied the cool blue gel all over my stomach. The ultrasound wand was almost intimidating as i was about to see if there was a mini me starting to grow inside of my uterus. Ben grabbed my hand softly as we waited for an image to pop up on the small screen.
"I love you" he whispered gently in my ear, his warm breath sending tingles up my spine. I get the same butterflies everyday with him, and having his child could only bring us closer together.
"Oh! Look-y there! I see an itty bitty baby, mrs.Fankhauser!" She pointed to the smallest little dot you ever did see, but it was definitely there. I watched Bens face as he attempted to decipher the fuzzy look of the screen, finding what he assumed would look like a full grown baby already.
"We're pregnant!" He exclaimed after a couple seconds of silence.
"We? Well, if we're sharing this pregnancy i call the first 7 months and you can have the last two."
"You want me to push that thing out? Uh uh, no way." He visibly cringed at the thought of having to give birth.
Dr.Wilson giggled at us. I guess we were pretty dang cute with the pretend argument over who would deliver the baby.
"You two have to be my favorite future parents ever. But, momma and papa should probably go and celebrate somewhere other than the OB office."
"Oh, right! Ben, honey, will you grab my clothes for me?"
"Youre not on bed rest yet, I think you are perfectly capable."
I pretended to be upset, letting out a few...nicknames... for him. They were all out of love, i mean, who doesnt call their soulmate an a**hole occasionally?
I got dressed and we left the OB office, heading out merrily to our car. The entire car ride home I couldnt wipe the stupid smile off of my face.
"We did it! Theres a baby in there!" Ben said, placing a hand over my stomach. "I cant wait to tell everyone!"
"Woah, hold on there partner. Remember what the OB said, 10-25% of babies dont even make it through the pregnancy. I think we should at least wait until the second trimester before we spout it out all willy nilly. Okay?"
"Yeah, youre right. Youre right!"
"I know. Now take me to mcdonalds so i can get a mcflurry."
"Its like... 11:45 am y/n"
"Pregnancy cravings?"
"Whatever."
~ 13 weeks pregnant~
"Is it safe to say yet? Come on y/n, i really wanna tell everyone!"
"Well, the first trimester is over, and theres still a baby, and im getting to fat to hide it anymore. So i guess....Lets tell everyone we're having a baby!"
"Great! I have a perfect idea."
"...yes?"
"Okay: we invite everyone over for a dinner, we can find some kind of event or holiday or something so that it wont seem suspicious."
"Sunday is mothers day! We can invite everyone for a mothers day brunch."
"Perfect! Ah were so great together."
"Back to the plan genius"
"Right! So we invite everyone to the mothers day brunch, and ill make a nice long toast about how mothers are so amazing and useful in our lives and we love them blah blah blah-"
"SKIP TO THE GOOD PART ALREADY!"
"I was getting there. Anyways, at the very end of the toast ill just, drop it in there and sit down. The reactions will be priceless!"
"Im down, but only if we can get sarah to record all the faces!"
"Deal!"
~mothers day~
*clink clink clink*
"Everyone, may i please have your attention! Thank you. Thank you all for showing up this lovely afternoon. Presents will be gifted after brunch but right now id like to propose a toast."
I watched nervously at the eyes of my mother, bens mom, and all of our friends and their moms and kids. Ben and I's fathers were also in attendance, focusing their time on the food.
"This goes out to all of the mothers in the room with us. You ladies are fantastic. We would literally not be here right now if it weren't for you. Some may say that mothers make the world go round, and they are 100%, completely and utterly correct. So to the most important women in my life- this next part is for you.
Mom- you have shaped me into the man i am today. Being the only jewish kid with the strict mom and having to prep for my bar mitzfah every Saturday may not have made you seem like the best mom at the time, but i know how wrong i am now.
And y/m/n, the most wonderful woman was molded from your hands and household, and i could not be any more thankful. So lets give it up to the moms today!"
Ben sat back down and everyone clapped, tears welling in their eyes. We gave one another a quick glance and he hopped back up again.
"Oh also i love the most fantastic woman in my life, y/n, who is also going to be a mom."
He sat back down in his seat so quickly that you wouldnt believe he had stood up. The only trace of him having actually said it was the roars of congratulations and questions. I felt like this must be what ben feels like during an interview-bombarded by fans wanting to know more and more.
The brunch ended soon and sarah showed us the recording probably 7 times so that we could look at everyones faces over and over-the appalled look over my mothers as she found out i was carrying was by far the best thing id seen in a year.
~20 weeks pregnant~
"Ben? Can you go start the car? Its a little cold."
"Yeah hun! Ready to find out the sex of the baby?"
"I assume you're talking to Sarah because i told you that we're doing a gender reveal party! Shes the only obe who can know!"
"Right. We cant know the sex of our baby until sarah decides she wants to tell us."
"Exactly!" I had come down the stairs and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "You didnt start the car" I whispered in his ear. The only reply was an eye roll followed by him going out to the car.
I went ahead and called Sarah to see if she was ready to retrieve our information and bake us a cake. Of course, my anazingly over prepared friend was already in the driveway by the time i had thought about calling her.
"Lets go everybody! Aunt sarah cant wait to find out if its a neice or nephew!" She shouted. Ive always loved the way she speaks in 3rd person in exciting moments.
"Coming!" I shouted back to her, turning around to make sure i grabbed everything. I couldn't believe that it was really happening, we were going to find outthe sex of our baby!
The doctors visit was short and sweet- only sarah got to see the ultrasound and the doctor wrote the sex of the baby onto a post it note and handed it to Sarah. I could see Ben's impatience getting the best of him- his leg bouncing up and down anticipating the reveal party.
The reveal party that will happen next chapter! What do you guys think? What theme reveal party? What gender is baby fankhauser?
