What's the weirdest thing that your family/household does that you thought was normal until you met others who don't?

Could be big or small things. An odd or unique way you do certain tasks, certain activities, words, etc. Anything.

Mine is rather simple. For most of my school life, my brothers and I were homeschooled. We used to have a habit when writing that if the eraser started smearing our writing instead of clearing it, we'd rub it on the carpet (it was this hard, brown rolly stuff, not regular carpet) and then it'd be all good. I honestly thought nothing of it.

Until one day, I was at my grandmother's house doing school work (some times I was her student) and my eraser was being dumb. So I rubbed it on the carpet. She nearly burst a blood vessel shouting at me for cleaning my eraser on her carpet. And I was little. Really young. So I thought that was just a thing everyone knew and did. She asked what I was doing as if I was crazy, and I answered back as if I couldn't believe she didn't know. That didn't end well for me...

Anyways, I hope you guys have more interesting replies.
