Panicked shuffling filled the small room, rousing interest as you rolled over in your bed. Your groan added to the odd sounds, confusing you and you sat up. "Who's that?" You muttered, rubbing the sleep from your eye.
"G-Go back to sleep! Don't worry about me."
You jumped back, grabbing your lamp and throwing the light on. Your fingers curled around a textbook that laid on your nightstand, launching to your feet instinctually. "Wow! Calm down! Not an intruder! I come in peace!"
You hesitated, rubbing your eyes and blinking until finally you could see clearly. Dusty, arms up in defense, glimpsed towards you in cautious fear. "Oh, it's just you Dusty." You muttered, lowering your makeshift weapon.
"It's just me? You know Gemini, I have long lines of ladies that would love to wake up in bed with me." His tone was cocky and rude, impulsively leaving your taste bitter.
"Can it Dusty. You're the one that came crawling to me last night. Do you really think I'd sleep with you on a whim's notice?" You quipped sharply.
His expression softened slightly, but he let out a scoff as he rolled his eyes. "Whatever crazy bitch."
You opened your mouth to respond, but it felt as though someone had reached into your neck and squeezed your throat, pain clenching in your chest. Your eyes fell to your feet as you sat on your bed, letting quiet sift over you. It hurt, though you'd heard it plenty of times before.
"Fine Dusty. Just lock the door behind you when you leave." You muttered.
Laying back down, you rolled on your side and pulled the blanket back over you. You curled your limbs up into a ball, closing your eyes and trying to slip back sleep. Dusty didn't move for a few seconds, before the mattress sank and you felt a hand gently shake your shoulder. "Hey, (Y/N)."
"What Dusty." You bit, not bothering to look at him.
"I don't remember what happened last night. But whatever it was, can we just forget it?"
"You were drunk. You wanted to talk." You said. Your tone was quiet, pain biting your words. "Consider it forgotten."
"Talk? Wait, hold on. What did I-"
"I said to consider it forgotten Dusty." Your voice became a snarl as you shot a sharp look to him. "Just... go."
He tried to respond, only filling the air with a breath before retreating. His weight lifted from the mattress and you listened to the door swing open, and shut. To your surprise, with no slamming force.
You replayed your conversation with Dusty in your head, staring at a wall as you did so. You felt tears in your eyes, but your expression betrayed nothing. Your mind buzzed and you craved sleep, but you couldn't shut your eyes without the loud thoughts rocking you awake.
You stood gently, rocking barren soles against the cold floor and stepping into the shower. The clock still alarmed you to the exuberantly early hour, but your mind remained elsewhere. You turned the knobs of the shower slowly, the water coming from the pipes ice cold, but warming quickly. Almost burning.
Stripping, you stepped into the water and let the droplets trickle over your scalp, dripping down in thick streams. For a moment, you wished it could wash away the turmoil in your head. A lingering guilt you couldn't dispose of.
When you wanted to assign a source, or a reason you might feel guilt, it was almost like your mind was wiped completely.
Quiet overtook you as you washed yourself, broken with a heavy knock. You jumped, quickly turning the water knob and wrapping a tower around your torso. "I'm coming! One moment!" You yelled.
