a haunting

let me sever
Our heartstrings that connect
Tie them safely back to their respective places
They are worn and stretched and thin
And just won't go back to where they were again.
You haunt me.
Enough to drizzle tiny splashes of rain on to my heart
Overcast.
My sunshine hides
timid, peeking out just barely
May I come out today?
Even in the sun
Your shadows are long
Stretching back to the place we once were
Could your day be long enough to fit
all those shadows inside it?
Or must they creep into those corners I've tried to open up
I've thrown up the windows to let in the sunshine
And still you hang on greedily to the fencepost
and the tree in my yard
Stretching me lazily back to when times were simpler
And you thought I was the perfect ray of light
