Chapter 12

The Sacrifice

Alex

I didn't even see it happen. One moment, Aiden was standing right next to me, the next, he was crouching right between his little sister and the man with the gun, I say man, but he was only about 16. As the gun fired, Aiden fell to the floor. But that wasn't even the shocking part. When he hit the floor, he liquidated, and next thing you know, there's a puddle of water where my friend used to be.

“Well" the gunner said, staring at the floor “I'll be honest, I saw that coming" he reloaded the gun. I thought he was going to go for the little girl, so I was ready to charge for the gun. But then, he aimed it at me.

“Sorry about this" he said“ not really, though"

Before he could fire, the ship jerked backwards. The I grabbed Esmeralda, and got the hoop off of her. Instantly, she came to. She stared at the puddle for a minute, then, wordlessly, placed her small water skin she had been carrying on her waist on the floor. Just as she stood back up, the man held the gun right in her face. She stared at him, expressionless, while he glared at her. She smirked, the kind of smirk you give when you're going to win an arm wrestle. Or murder someone. She grabbed his outstretched arm, twisted it, spun around, and casually threw him over her head, into a bunch of fancy looking vases.

“Anyone else?" she called over her shoulder. The other soldiers looked at each other, to the groaning man among broken vases, then left. “That's what I thought"

She bent down and picked up her water skin. The puddle had disappeared. She walked towards the hole we had made, grabbed my arm, and jumped, dragging me down with her.

We plummeted towards the planet, which was currently 10,000 feet or so below us.

“I would like to think that you have a plan!" I yelled to her

“No!" she yelled back “ but she does!" she pointed behind me.

I turned around, to see another airship, the airship that rammed into the Empire ship, saving our lives. Except, it wasn't an Empire airship. It had the same pod-like structure as an Empire ship, but it was grey, instead of the pristine white those ships were. And, on the side, instead of the Empire's sigil, which looked like a giant eagle, it had a picture of a purple flower on the side.

We landed on top of the ship, where a hatch promptly opened, and we jumped inside.

It was dark, so we sat in silence for a minute. Then the lights came on, and I realised we were surrounded by people in black, shrouded clothes and hoods. I was prepared to fight, but Esmeralda seemed totally calm. it wasn't five seconds before I heard a familiar voice.

“S'up, bitches." My sister removed the cowl from her head.

“Betcha thought you've seen the last of me."
