That night Daniel came over to work on the project. When I had let him in Aunt Martha was in the kitchen washing dishes. I had forgotten to tell her that he was coming.
I opened the door, "Come on in."
"Thank you." Daniel said.
"Is that a boy's voice I hear??" Aunt Martha called from the kitchen. "Well, it is! Who is this, Lillian?"
"This is Daniel. We were partnered for a project, and he has come over so we can work on it." I said.
"Oh! Let me shake your hand, young man!" They shook hands. "Well, my name is Martha Calhoun, Lillian's Aunt, but you can call me whatever you want."
"Thank you, Miss Calhoun. I think we're going to go work on our school project now." Daniel said, very politely.
"Alright. Don't get too rowdy!" she said as she winked at me.
I blushed and he looked down so that I couldn't see his face. "Aunt Martha!!! We'll be going now. Stay out of trouble!" I said. "Come on, Daniel."
I said that as I ran up the stairs to my room. I sat on my bed, and he came in and shut the door after him.
{It's about to get JUICYYY so buckle UPP!!!}
When he walked in the door I said to him, "I'm really sorry she said that....she's can be a little overbearing."
"No, no! It's okay. But that was a little awkward." He said.
[[I'M GONNA SKIP THEM WORKING ON THE PROJECT!!! ON TO THE JUICY STUFF!!]]
"Why did you come back today?" I asked.
"What do you mean?"
"At school. After you left you came back and apologized. No one does that."
"Well, after I walked away I felt really bad. I've never done it before because I've never felt the need to."
"Oh. I'm sorry I just walked off too. I was just being spiteful."
"It's okay. I shouldn't have been rude in the first place."
"So....where are your parents? If you don't mind me asking, that is." Daniel said.
"Oh...well, my dad and brother died in a car accident a few years ago, and a week or so ago my mom..." I inhaled sharply "my mom committed suicide."
"Oh I'm sorry for asking!! Is that why your Aunt is here?"
"No, it's okay to be curious. But, yeah. She came to take care of me until I'm ready to live on my own."
"Oh. Sorry."
"It's okay."
"Why didn't you ever talk to anyone until Jennifer came?"
"Because when my dad died I just isolated myself from everyone. I didn't want people to pity me. That's why I stopped being friends with Joann and Leigh. I didn't want to drag them down. Why are you always so quiet?"
"Well, I get bullied a lot, as you know, and I've always been a generally quiet person. But the reason I stopped talking at all about anything is because my little sister was diagnosed with cancer. I just didn't feel the need to talk about happy things because I wasn't happy. And happy things were all I talked about before. So I just...don't talk."
"I'm so sorry." I could tell it was really hard for him.
"Thanks. She's going through chemo right now, and she's staying really strong." He put on a small smile. "I'm the oldest of four kids. There's me, my brother one year younger than me is James, my brother three years younger than me is Leo, and then my little sister Jessica. She's 6."
"I really hope she gets better. How old are you?"
"18."
"I'm 17."
We talked and talked and talked some more. We got to know each other and laughed at stories we exchanged and had a wonderful time. Our talking was only interrupted by the thing that helps me escape my problems. Sleep.
Daniel yawns "I'm awfully tired. Probably too tired to drive. Is it too much trouble for me to stay here?"
"No, you can stay here. There's a guest bedroom right next door. There's probably some clothes in there too, if you don't mind my dad's."
"Thank you so much."
"Mhm" I yawned.
"Goodnight."
"Goodnight!"
Daniel's POV:::
I walked over to the guest bedroom and looked in the bureau, and there were some clothes. I changed, because I was too tired to care whose clothes they were.
That night talking with Lillian was the best evening I had had in a long, long time. She just brings out the best in me.
