Zayn's Pov
I swear this house never knows peace.
One minute everything is calm, the next it feels like something is brewing again—like the universe just refuses to let us breathe properly.
I was walking downstairs when I heard Chrissy's voice. Low. Careful. Almost like she was trying not to exist while speaking.
That alone made me stop.
Werewolf hearing isn't exactly subtle. You don't just *miss* whispers in this house. You hear everything—even when you don't want to.
"I know... just shut up okay? We don't want them to know yet," she hissed into the phone.
My steps slowed.
That tone wasn't normal. Not for her.
I leaned slightly closer without thinking. I know, I know—it's wrong. But curiosity has always been louder than logic in moments like this.
"Are you dumb?! I don't want to ruin what I have planned. It's all worth it, you asshole. Stop being negative. We're not going to get caught if you just keep your mouth shut."
Her voice sharpened.
And whoever was on the other end? They were shouting back. I couldn't hear the exact words, but the anger was obvious.
My brain immediately started spiraling.
Drug deal? No.
Kidnapping? No.
Secret demon war conspiracy? ...please no.
Stupid imagination, Zayn. Focus.
"I'll call you later," she said more quietly. "Just... keep me updated. If anything goes wrong, text me. Thank you."
Click.
Call ended.
Silence dropped like a weight.
Then—
"What are you doing here, Z-Zayn?"
I turned.
Chrissy stood there, phone still in her hand, eyes slightly wide. Not guilty exactly... but definitely aware she'd been caught in something she didn't want seen.
I tilted my head slightly. "Maybe because I live here?"
She rolled her eyes, recovering quickly. "Right. Forgot that detail."
But her tone was off.
Too quick. Too controlled.
She stepped back. "I need to go to my room."
"Of course you do," I murmured.
Then I smirked without meaning to.
Big mistake.
Her eyes flicked to me instantly. "Zaynie. Don't smirk. I hate it when you do that."
And just like that—she walked off fast.
What the hell?
Before I could even process that, Niall came bouncing into the kitchen like he owned the place.
"Hey Zaynieboo, what's up?"
I blinked. "Did you just—never mind."
He grabbed a snack like he hadn't just entered a crime scene of awkward energy.
"Your sister is acting weird," I said flatly.
Niall paused mid-bite. "Which one?"
"...Chrissy."
He immediately laughed. Loud. Too loud.
"Oh, I can see why!"
"Why?" I narrowed my eyes.
But he just kept laughing like I was missing an inside joke from the universe.
"You two are basically siblings, honestly," I muttered.
He stopped laughing for half a second. "That's offensive but also fair."
Then he left again just as fast.
What is happening today?
Liam appeared next, already halfway out the door. "Tell Dani I'm going out for something I need to fix... somewhere!"
Then gone.
No explanation. No details. Just chaos.
I turned slowly toward the empty room.
"Why is everyone acting like they're in a spy movie?" I muttered.
Tim walked in right after like he'd been summoned by confusion itself.
"I'm guessing you don't know either," he said calmly.
"No idea."
He nodded once, like that confirmed something in his head. "Good. Then I'm not the only one."
Then, casually, he added: "Can you get me something from the store?"
I blinked. "Sure."
He handed me a folded list.
I didn't think much of it at first.
That was my second mistake.
---
### The List
Toilet rolls (100)
Ties (100)

Roses in every color possible (from the back of the mall apparently??)

Baby lotion
Wine and beer (because apparently I'm "an expert")

Nando's for Niall, Dani, and Chrissy ASAP
---
Pet shop items:
Cages for birds, rabbits, snake (but also "let it roam??"), fishes, cats, huskies
Food for all of them
And—somehow—ask what snakes eat.
---
P.S. "Buy everything in an hour pls xx"
---
I just stared at it.
Dead silence.
"...Are you serious?" I asked slowly.
Tim didn't even blink. "Completely."
I looked back at the list again. Then at him. Then back at the list.
"This isn't shopping," I said. "This is a survival mission."
He nodded. "Correct."
I exhaled sharply.
And for the first time today...
I missed the demons.
