Unknown's Pov
They were panicking.
Good.
Panic makes people predictable.
From where I stood, hidden beyond their sight, I could see everything clearly.
The wolves were gathering strength.
The vampire was weakening.
And the demon... was becoming impatient.
Clifford was already moving like a cornered animal, barely holding himself together.
Too hungry.
Too unstable.
Exactly how I needed him.
The eclipse was approaching faster than expected.
That meant one thing:
Everything would break sooner.
And Christine—
No.
The White Alpha.
She was still unaware of what she truly was.
Still clinging to fragments of her old life.
Family. Friends. Love.
All things that would be stripped away soon.
I watched her carefully through the thread of fate tied around her wrist.
The mark was already forming.
Slowly.
Beautifully.
Ross thinks he controls her.
How amusing.
He's just the cage.
Not the lock.
And definitely not the key.
A soft laugh left my lips.
They were all playing their parts perfectly.
The loyal brother.
The broken friends.
The pretending demon.
Even the vampire who thought hunger was his biggest weakness.
None of them understood the truth yet.
That this wasn't a rescue mission.
It was a selection.
And not all of them would survive it.
I tilted my head slightly, sensing movement far away.
Ah.
The eclipse energy was reacting early.
That meant she was waking up faster than planned.
Good.
Pain accelerates awakening.
And she was about to feel a lot of it.
I turned away slowly, stepping back into the shadows.
"Let them search," I whispered to no one.
"They always do."
