Christine's Pov
I woke up like something had been pulled out of me.
Not physically.
Something deeper.
Like a thread inside my chest had gone taut and snapped back into place.
My head throbbed as I sat up slowly, staring at the unfamiliar room around me.
It wasn't Ross's place anymore.
This place felt... colder.
Stronger.
Wrong.
I pushed myself off the bed and immediately noticed it—
the silence wasn't normal.
It was too controlled.
Like the house itself was holding its breath.
I walked toward the mirror.
My reflection looked back at me, but for a second—
just a second—
I didn't recognize myself.
The engagement ring on my finger glowed faintly under the light.
I tried to pull it off again.
It didn't move.
Not even slightly.
"What did you do to me..." I whispered.
Flashback
Ross smiling.
Too calmly.
Too perfectly.
The way his eyes shifted when no one was looking.
The way my body didn't feel like it belonged to me when I said yes.
That wasn't me.
I didn't say yes.
Something made me.
Christine's Pov
I staggered back from the mirror.
"No..." I breathed. "No, no, no..."
The door creaked open behind me.
I froze.
A slow clap echoed from the hallway.
"Still fighting it," a voice said calmly.
Ross.
He stepped inside like he owned the air I was breathing.
But now that I looked closer—
his face wasn't just human.
There was something layered under it.
Like something wearing him.
"You're awake early," he said, smiling faintly.
I backed away. "What did you do to me?"
He tilted his head. "I saved you."
"Saved me from what?!"
He stepped closer.
And for the first time—
I felt it.
Fear.
Not of him.
But of what he might become.
"You don't understand your place in this world yet," he said softly. "But you will."
My hands shook. "Let me go."
He sighed like I was being difficult.
"I can't."
That hit harder than anything else.
"Because of the ceremony?" I asked.
His eyes flickered.
So that part was true.
Harry's Pov
The drive was silent.
Too silent.
Even Niall wasn't speaking anymore.
He just stared ahead like if he blinked, he'd lose her completely.
Gemma was in the front seat, tracking something on her device.
Clifford sat beside her, unusually still.
Zayn broke the silence first.
"We're close?"
Gemma nodded once. "They're moving her north."
Louis leaned forward. "So we intercept?"
Clifford's voice was low. "If we're late... we won't get another chance."
Niall finally spoke.
"Then we won't be late."
Simple.
Cold.
Final.
Christine's Pov
Ross reached for my hand.
I flinched away instantly.
He paused.
Then smiled again—slightly sharper this time.
"You really think they're coming for you?"
My stomach dropped.
"What are you talking about?"
He leaned in slightly.
"They're already too late."
The lights in the room flickered.
And for a split second—
his eyes weren't just dark.
They were empty.
