Merlin's POV
I woke up early the next morning, barely remembering the events of the day before. I was suddenly worried, was my magic gone for good? I decided to test it and successfully lifted my clothes off the floor with my mind. It was fine, and today seemed like a good day. I was ready to perform my duties as manservant to the king and smiled at the thought of seeing Arthur.
"Rise and shine! Get up you prat!" I said as the lazy king rolled over and tried to go back to sleep. His golden coloured hair shone in the light and it was ruffled slightly over his brilliant blue eyes.
"I am the king, you idiot can't address me like that," he mumbled in response, placing his head back onto the pillow as I opened the curtains letting the light fill the room.
"Well I'm the greatest sorcerer to walk the earth, so you can't call me an idiot," I smirked, using my magic to pull the duvet off Arthur. He groaned and said nothing. Mornings started like this often, but I enjoy nothing more than looking at Arthur in the morning, as creepy as it sounds, his natural look with his sleepy eyes and messy hair was something not many people had the fortune to see. I grinned at him, I couldn't help it, he was just too perfect. But then my grin faltered, and I fell to the ground in unbearable pain.
It was like there was fire burning my insides and it was agonising. I screamed and yelled, I was squirming on the floor and hoped that death would come soon. Arthur heard my screams and saw me laying on the floor and was over my body, talking at me. I couldn't understand what he was saying, but I felt him place his hand on my sweaty forehead and pulling off my brown jacket. He was yelling and crying, so was I. And the next thing I knew, he was carrying me bridal style to Gaius's room. He ran all the way and ignored all the weird looks people were giving us. On the way, I realised that moving wasn't helping with the pain, it was just wasting my energy, so I kept still and tried to stay silent as my body was engulfed in constant agony.
Arthur's POV
I was so scared, what happened to my friend? I ran holding him to Gaius, hoping that he will have some herbs or something to cure Merlin.
When I got there, I didn't even knock, I just barged through and place Merlin carefully on a bed as he breathed heavily and clenched his fists. Gaius followed me with a worried expression plastered on his face.
"What on earth happened?" Gaius finally asked.
"I don't know, he just collapsed on the floor and started screaming. Will he be okay? Gaius, will you do something?" I was frantic, what if he dies? I would rather die the most painful death than see him hurt.
"I fear he is being affected by the spell the goblin made when you killed it. To make you suffer for your sin, they are making the person closest to your heart feel agony. He will not die, however he will be like this forever, he is on the brink of death but not being aloud to die. He is too weak to do magic to make himself better. There is nothing we can do I'm afraid," Gaius sighed and grabbed a pillow to put under Merlin's head.
"Th... The p.... The person.... The person cl... Closest..... To y..... Your heart.... Huh?" Despite the pain, Merlin smirked and then grimaced. I just smiled at him slightly and then held his hand for comfort.
"Gaius, there must be something we can do! I'm not just going to leave him here in pain because of me!" I shouted to Gaius, I would not accept that there was no cure, Merlin had to live.
"Well... You see sire, as you are the one who caused the spell, the speed can only be broken by, well... Your death sire. You both must be at the Isle of the Blessed and you have to offer yourself to cease his pain," Gaius seemed uncertain, but he wants Merlin okay almost as much as I do. I thanked him and ran to get a horse ready. I heard Merlin's cry of protest as I prepared to end his suffering by ending my own life.
