Gaius's POV

It was late in the afternoon when Merlin finally returned home. I had been so worried about him, what if he did something stupid because of what Arthur did for him? Or what if the plan failed and he was still on the brink of death without dying? But then suddenly he bounded through the door and hugged me. I sighed in relief, Merlin was like a son to me and if he was hurt, then I would never forgive myself. But I noticed that the boy was holding a small baby in his arms and I frowned in confusion.

"So you're back. And... Why are you carrying a baby?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"She is called Efa and she Arthur's. I guess she'll be the heir to the throne now, the king is very fond of her. Arthur said that he wants me to teach her magic," he replied, but i still didn't understand how Arthur got a baby, but I let it slide. The bigger question was, how is Arthur still alive?

"So Arthur is still alive?" I spoke quietly, not wanting to upset Merlin in case Arthur was actually dead. He just smiled at me and grunted a yes before handing me the baby to look after.

Arthur's POV

I had nothing to do for a while, so I sat in my chambers and just smiled. Life was so perfect. Merlin loved me like I loved him and I now have an heir to the throne of Camelot for when I die. But I was so in love with Merlin it is unreal, I was so lucky to have him.

"Sire," Merlin grinned as he entered. It was a giant goofy grin which brightened up his whole face and his happiness shined in his eyes. I ambled over to him and stood so close that our chests were almost touching, I could feel his breath on my face and his pupils dilated. I leaned close to him, closer, and closer...

"Race you to training practice," I whispered and we shot off. Merlin was a good runner, I am a knight trained since birth and he still beat me, only just. But then I looked to the side and saw his eyes flashing golden and realised that he was using magic for speed. "You cheating bastard!" He ginned and stuck his tongue out at me.

Throughout training, I spent most of the time staring at the gorgeous boy standing awkwardly next to me. At one point, Percival looked at me, then at Merlin and winked. He knew about us and I just hope he wouldn't tell any of the other knights, I don't want rumours being spread.

After training, I was so tired and worn out, but I went with Merlin to his chambers to see Efa. She was such a beautiful little girl, her eyes were wide and emerald green, and her hair was dark and soft. Gaius was looking after her well and I vowed to be a better father to little Efa than Uther was to me.
