It  was New Year's eve and Sara was in no mood to go to any "family party" which her parents forced her to go. Her mother tried the age-old way of tricking her that there would be much youth and her father convinced her that she would have a great time.

Sara made a final attempt to ditch the party, just before she got ready. She argued with her mother in vain for half an hour, before she accepted her defeat wearing a frown on her face. She had been to similar parties every year with her parents and her experience told her there were a number of things she could do better than go to the party where only aunties and uncles would  come.

Sara didn't want to go there as she was tired after the long hours she spent at work that week. She had a huge day tomorrow which was going to be filled with more fun activities. She was also a huge romantic hindi soaps fan and according to that whoever you see at midnight you are destined to be with them throughout your life, so that's why she didn't want to be among elders.

A few hours later

Sara dressed up and looked stunning in a blue 'n' black knee-length dress. Her makeup was just perfect and was neatly done to enhance her eyes and lips which made her look gorgeous.

Her mom seeing her sarcastically sympathized with her "too bad there are only uncles and aunties, cause you look so pretty that any guy would want you."

Sara just wanted this awkward night to be over as soon as possible. Whatever said and done, her mother's happiness mattered most to her. She hugged her mother and left for the party. Little did she know what destiny had in store for her.

At the party

Sara greeted everyone and was enquired about her studies and career. She politely replied to everyone that she had completed her degree and was doing her internship.

It was 11pm and all were still mingling and the party was just about to get fun. Soon the actual party started,  the aunties and uncles started to dance.

Sara stayed in a corner and tried her best to enjoy, but something else caught her attention.

A guy was standing all alone and Sara felt the need to include him in the party. As she went closer to him she noticed butterflies in her stomach she didn't know if meeting him would be the right move. However, she inched closer and found out by his expression that he was in a very bad mood, he was disinterested and was nowhere near the 'party mood'.

Sara thought that it was because of the people in the party and told him "don't worry, look at me even though I'm not enjoying but that doesn't mean I'm sulking, just forget it and live in the moment."

The guy gave her a questioning look and didn't understand who she was and what her problem was, he looked at her face and  noticed her genuineness, his expression changed to one of gratefulness as he had felt lonely earlier.

Sara then introduced herself, he then told her that his name was Rohan. Sara couldn't help but notice how handsome he looked in the blue shirt which fit him comfortably, his muscles were enhanced at the right places and Sara could not miss noticing them as he moved his hands while talking.

Rohan mentioned that he came to this party cause his mom forced him to.

Sara smiled to herself at the thought of how similar their situations were. Once they started talking, the ice had broken long ago, so Sara took courage, although she felt that she was invading his privacy asked him "Why were you upset?"

In the brief conversation they had, Rohan realized how innocent she was and didn't mind sharing with her what was on his mind.

Rohan's expression changed and he sulked  "I miss my friend, we always celebrate New Year's together but this time he met with an accident and is in his hometown recovering, I had plans of going there but mom forced me to come here for some important work."

Sara almost understood Rohan so she suggested that they go to a  church. She emphasized "Let's spend some time there, while we pray for our year ahead and you can also pray for your friend." Rohan was now glad at the thought of this and accepted immediately. They walked to a nearby church and prayed in the chapel. Once Rohan finished, he felt completely light at heart and looked at Sara. Now, he realized how pretty, truthful and childlike she looked when she prayed, he could not help but stare at her until she was done praying.

They had just passed the huge doors of the church when they heard crackers which made Sara jerk and slip. Rohan, in order to save her from falling, grabbed her hand and pulled her close to him and held her by her waist. She was in shock, her heart was pounding and she took a few deep breaths to stabilize herself. Just then, as clichéd as this sounds, the clock struck twelve and they had an eye lock. After moments of being lost in each other's eyes,  they pulled away from each other and started to walk.

There was an unexplainable tension in the air, they weren't the same as they were. In order to erase this awkwardness, they started to talk about random stuff like favourite movies, songs, actors, etc.

Finally, the party was over and it was time to leave. As they bid goodbye both felt heavy in their heart, they quickly exchanged phone numbers, with the hope that they would meet soon.

They had never made friends with someone so soon, but it felt right to be with each other and so they went back home recalling their encounter and how the thought of each other brought a never experienced but lovely feeling in their heart.
