A reason to live.

Chapter 34

Jun pulled apart and wiped the tears off my face and made me sit on the bed, “what happened?” he asked and I told him everything.

“I know that she will be expecting us to have a baby, but that doesn’t mean that she can ask me if I’m sick, right?, I’m just upset of the fact that she didn’t trust, that if I was ever sick or anything of that sort, I would have told you’ll before our wedding itself”

“Listen, I understand what you’re trying to tell and I totally agree that ma shouldn’t have asked you that, but think from her point of view, whenever her friends ask her, if there is any good news and she tells no, they might talk that you might be sick, so she was just concerned for you, she wanted to make sure that you are fine, do you get what I’m trying to say?”He said as he held my palms in his and rubbed circles with his thumb on the back of my palm. “I will talk to ma before dinner, but please forgive her” he said in an apologetic manner, and I nodded my head, he kissed me on my forehead and left .

I washed my face and went to set the table for dinner, I was shortly accompanied by ma, “look Sara, I’m sorry, I just wanted to know, I didn’t mean that I didn’t trust you, I hope we can be the way we were before?” she said as she rubbed my head in a motherly manner 

“athai, it’s okay, I’m also sorry, if I hurt you” I said and we hugged.

The next day

Before I left for work as I was talking to athai “Sara can you just please pay the telephone bill before you go for work?” athai asked.

“Sure athai, but where is Rohan? Why isn’t he paying it?” I asked. 

“ugh, that boy! He got some work it seems” she said.

“okay I’ll pay it, but let me ask him first” I said and left while athai nodded.

In the bedroom as I entered I saw Jun in deep thought “oh…hello…Jun?” I said waving my hand in front of his eyes as I tried to get his attention, at last I tapped him on his shoulder and he jerked up to look at me blankly, “um…what work do you have today morning?” I asked 

“just the general, why? Shall we go out for breakfast?” he asked as his eyes shone bright with expectation.

 I narrowed my eyes and looked at him quizzically controlling the smile that was trying to creep, “then why didn’t you accept to pay the bill?” I asked as I showed the bill “oh...that…I will go out before going to work and so I won’t have time to do both and get to work” he said “and what is that work of yours?” I asked “hmm… if you don’t remember, day after is my birthday, and I haven’t bought new clothes for me, so I thought of buying something, as in the evening I’ll be late as I have to complete work, so that I can have a day off” he said.

“Why don’t you pay the bill in the morning, we can go out together in the evening and tell athai that we will have dinner out?” I asked, he widened his eyes as a huge smile plastered on his face showing all his teeth, such a nice idea, after all you’re my wife” he said and kissed me on my cheek and took the bill, I smiled to myself at his activities, also I had gotten used to his sudden kisses and kind of enjoyed it, “by the way,what were you thinking about?” I asked 

“about this only, as to when I’ll get my clothes” he said and I giggled and went to him and ruffled his hair “oh...Okay...Birthday baby” I said sarcastically, and watched him turn and adjust his hair walking.

In the evening

We went to the mall and went to a shop, Jun decided that he needed a black jean, a formal shirt and t-shirt, so I searched for a shirt while he tried on the jean; I liked a grey checked shirt which gradually faded towards the bottom. I felt it would give him a professional look as it looked crisp and also because it was unique from the usual checked, striped or plain shirts he had.

 When he came from the trial, I asked him if he’d like that shirt, he held it and while I went around searching for anything better, I came back to him as I didn’t find anything interesting, when I came back he held out two shirts, one which I had given and another t-shirt; it was a blue shirt with a few buttons on the top and had a very casual look, I took it from him “shall I take these?” he asked as he leant close near my ear and his breathe touched my skin, I could feel the hair on the back of my neck raise.

“hmm…didn’t you find any other shirt which you might like?” I asked 

“no…I’ll go with this, I don’t have anything like this” he said and we billed and left.

We went to a nearby restaurant, “so who all will be coming tomorrow?” I asked as we ate our sizzler.

“generally, its Jason, Nikhil, and pa’s brothers family; my chitti and chittapa and their son, Andrew, but Andrew is in the 12th grade, so I think only chittapa will come, he’s a very jolly man who has a number of fantastic experiences in life, each story he shares is just fabulous..mmm…” he said biting into the dragon chicken we had ordered along with the noodles, we chatted a bit more and headed home.

The next day was hectic, I went to work and as I came home I had to make a few arrangements with the florist for a bouquet, and also brought my parents along.

When I got home everyone was excited and began putting on the decorations, after a while Jun came, he freshened up a bit and although his birthday was tomorrow he was excited from today itself, like a little kid, making everyone laugh and keeping them on their toes. He was so particular with the decorations and the food for tomorrow, soon all the preparations were over and we went to our rooms, Jun went soon as he had to charge his phone, so that the battery doesn’t drain off while he is receiving calls at 12am.

 I secretly took his phone after it was charged and hid it in the shelf and told everyone at home to not wish him till 12:30am, just so that he could get a little restless. (hehehe)

Jun was lying on the bed when I went in, I quickly changed my clothes, and freshened up a bit, I wore blue shorts and white t-shirt, tied my hair in a messy bun, took a magazine and tucked myself on the bed, at around 11:45pm I felt Jun stir, I immediately left the book and closed my eyes, as if I was sleeping, Jun got up and I felt him go towards his charger, and looked around for his phone, after minutes of searching for it he came back and sat on the bed as he waited for the clock to strike 12, I turned towards him as I kept my eyes closed.

I felt his breathe on my face, actually every day, before he slept he kissed me on my cheek, but I never showed him that I knew that he used to kiss me, he came close and I waited for when he will kiss me, within seconds his lips were on my cheeks and he whispered “I love you” just like every day… but today was not every day, I wasn’t going to let him think that I don’t know, as he drew his face apart, I took my palm and placed it on his cheek, he was shocked, I looked at him straight in the eye “happy birthday” I said and crashed my lips to his and withdrew immediately as a blush crept upon my cheek, and also because I was unsure if he was okay with it, as soon as I withdrew he smiled so happily that the smile reached his eyes, he took my chin in his fingers and made me look up to him, as soon as our eyes locked, he brought his head down as he kissed me in a slow, loving manner, and trailed feather kisses to my ears “thank you” he said as his breathe fanned my cheeks and sent tingles of electricity through my body.
