The next day I walked to to school in uncertainty, trying to convince myself that the events last night were only a dream, nothing more, nothing less.
I'm trying hard to forget the events where I had somehow taken place of someone else. But I knew the minute Luke would retrieve a cigarette from his back pack or I caught sight of his lips, everything would come flooding back to me.
Numerous amounts of chatter surrounded me when footsteps echoed down the overly crowded halls. I was in search of Luke but the many people scattered about made it hard to see, towering me with their heights and big builds.
I turned the corner, approaching my upcoming class and my gaze caught hold of Ashton at the other end of the hall. He seemed shocked at my appearance, coming closer with quick sides
When he approached my sides, his eyes were still thoroughly enlarged. He attached his hand around my wrist, snatching it in his hold and my head snapped up at him.
"Where did you go yesterday?" He shouted in a whisper. "I had to cover for you, no bullshit Lexie."
I held eye contact for as long as I could, finally breaking it with the deathening stare.
"I bunked," I shrugged my shoulders.
Ashton's grip tightened and he angrily looked around him when the halls had somehow crowded more. When Ashton turned his attention away, I pushed at his hand, desperately wanting to escape his scarce grip when his fingertips tightened.
"Ashton," I gasped. "Ashton, you're hurting me."
He tugged at my arm, pulling me into the cleaning closest opposite our lockers, pushing me in and locking the door behind us. When he finally released my arm, I gasped loudly and rubbed the palm of my hand over the burning source.
It was dark within the closest and it barely lit when Ashton pulled at the dim light switch, enlightening the room with the small and flickering flash of light above us.
"Where were you yesterday?" He repeated, louder this time.
I crossed my arms firmly. "At the park." I admitted truthfully.
"You were with Luke." He hissed between his teeth.
I stopped momentarily, starting at him in shock. "So what if I was?" I argued, chucking my arms in the air. "What does it matter to you? Luke's distraught and I'm trying to help him but you treat him like he's nothing!" I shouted.
My hands flew back down my sides in frustration, soon enough running them through the roots of my hair to attempt to calm myself down. My heart began to beat unsteady, pounding at my chest and secluding me in the tiny space which we were enclosed in.
Ashton turned his head down, his teeth attached around his bottom lip when he couldn't bring himself to answer. His hands hid themselves in his pockets and I heard him loudly sigh, the overpowering noise echoing quietly outside the door as the students now left the halls.
"Look, I don't know what he's done to you. Were you friends with this girlfriend? Has he hurt you?" I questioned, bringing my gaze to the floor moments after, once he didn't meet my gaze. "I dunno, but Ash you just-"
His head snapped up and I looked up to him also, finally meeting his questioning gaze. "You called me Ash." He spoke shakily.
I laughed dryly, no humour behind my voice. "Can't I?"
"You never call me Ash." He spoke under his breath.
The atmosphere dropped quickly in the small room and I slowly shrugged my shoulders, letting them drop. It was complete silence for several moments and I loudly sighed, brushing past his body and attaching my hand around the door knob.
"I'm worried." Ashton spoke up finally. I kept my hand around the handle, turning to him slowly. "He influenced his girlfriend into the wrong things, they did stuff no one should know about." He whispered.
My hand dropped and I turned to Ashton fully, knowing it was hard for him to continue but I demanded answers, especially with the experiences of my dreams and the brief parts which I had experienced.
"I don't want that to happen to you. It was only that split second that changed everything for them, it was all an accident." He barely managed out. "What if he changes you?"
I gritted my teeth, taking in every word that he said, exhaling the words slowly. "He won't. He's not a bad guy Ashton." I shook my head.
I left Ashton in the closest and angrily closed the door behind me when I left. I walked the school halls and everyone had now exited to their class rooms and I was left alone with my thoughts, a place no one should be.
Many emotions ran through my mind and I didn't know whether to laugh, cry or scream, but either way, I kept my mouth shut and pushed open the door to my class room in frustration.
Intimidating eyes turned my way and I ignored them all, hearing the teacher loudly sigh when I walked past his desk. My bag fell from my shoulder and I dropped down to the plastic chair.
My head fell into the palms of my hands and I grumbled nonsense into them, pushing my hair back from my head. I made sure not to look up when I heard Ashton enter the class room. He walked to his usual place to the back, but now this time taking my seat next to Calum who looked at him with a questioning look.
When I brought my head back from my hands, Luke's eyes shone a hint of black and shock when I chose a seat next to him, rather than at the back with my so called 'friends'.
The seats and tables around us were empty also considering that we were sat at the front, beside the window and the teacher's desk. Everyone usually scattered to the back, as far away from the teacher as possible.
Luke was slightly shaken and majorly confused when he still didn't know my reason of sitting here. The last thing he knew was that I was angry with him, leaving him abandoned with a cigarette and a park swing.
"You're my friend, right?" I asked suddenly.
Luke's eyes flashed huge again and he laughed nervously, shaking his head slowly back and forth, adjusting his movements in the chair.
"I don't have friends."
Some reason I felt a little hardened at Luke's words but I subtly nodded.
"I'll start the register now that everyone's here." The teacher's voice drained.
When the different names called and soon answered with responses, I slowly peered over my shoulder to watch Ashton's cold face when he whispered to the other's, peering me to occasionally.
When he noticed my gaze, he stopped slowly, sending a cold and sad look my way, followed by Calum and Michael looking at me questioningly then focusing their eyes on Luke.
"I'm.. I.." A soft voice spoke by my side.
I turned slowly, watching Luke's face turn slightly agitated as he tried to speak the specific words. His nose scrunched up in concentration, eyebrows soon squeezing together.
"I don't hate her. I still love her." He spoke suddenly.
My eyes widened and I looked at him in shock, turning my body towards him fully as a long breath followed his lips.
"She left me, Lexie." He shakily spoke, looking like he'd cry at any moment. "And I've finally realised she's not coming back."
