Chapter 2: Escape

“What… what do you want?” Tomomi whimpered as she struggled to get on her feet.

“Simple.” The masked man spun the dagger once with his finger, pointing. “Your life.”

The man swiftly dashed forward and tried to dig the dagger into Tomomi’s head, but instead, the dagger met with the floor. Tomomi then scrambled on her feet and raced to the door. Opening she yelled out, “ERIC! COME NO –“

Tomomi felt a huge hand covering her mouth tightly with the cold steel blade near her throat tagging along. In the spur of the moment, Tomomi took a breath in, closed her eyes and bit the masked man’s fingers. Not expecting it, the masked man screamed in pain and dropped the dagger.

The masked man tried to let loose, but Tomomi was stubborn and held tightly. Eventually, the masked man punched her in the ribs that let loose of the grip. Tomomi fell back with the taste of blood in her mouth and the masked man was frantically searching for the lost dagger.

He eventually found the dagger and flipped it, catching the point of the blade with two fingers. He then flicked it with deadly accuracy that it was going to go between Tomomi’s eyes.

Time seemed to slow down as the injured Tomomi helplessly saw the dagger flying towards her. “My Lady!” a shout came from the stairway and before she knew it, a large silver blade was shining in front of her, deflecting the flying dagger. “Are you harmed?!”

“I’m… I’m fine!” Tomomi was pointing at the masked man. “Get the assassin!”

Eric charged forward and gave out a great diagonal slash. The masked man was very agile and evaded the attacked with ease and covered his vision with his white cloak. “Gah! What a craven!” he cursed out. Eric didn’t see the assailant, but Tomomi knew that he was somewhere in the room.

“He’s… in there Eric.” Obeying his master’s orders, Eric cautiously went into the room. Tomomi slowly got up on her feet, with one hand on her ribs and another on the wall keeping her balance. Struggling, she peeked into the room and saw that Eric stood in the middle of the room with his longsword out in a readied position, waiting for the assailant to come out.

Tomomi found it very unusual that the assassin could disappear in a matter of seconds. There was no way that a person could hide in a relatively small chamber… and jumping out of the window was out of the question. She scouted the room to look for any potential clues… until she saw a red drop falling down above her chamber door.

Once it hit the floor, she examined it very suspiciously and found out that it was blood. Why is there blood falling down…? Then she remembered the taste of the assailant’s blood! He must’ve injured his hand while I bit into him… then… that means…

All of a sudden, the assassin dropped down on the balls of his feet and leapt forward armed with another dagger behind a defenseless Eric. “ERIC! BEHIND YOU!”

Eric looked behind and reacted just in time. His quickness allowed him to duck under the leaping attacker. He pulled back his sword slightly and thrust it through the stomach of the assassin. Blood and liquids gushed out of the victim and Eric’s perfect appearance was covered in red. It was almost as if he had a human umbrella.

Tomomi was horrified by the gruesome scene and nearly gagged, but she maintained a strong face. “Eric… are you hurt anywhere?”

“I’m not my Lady.” He replied standing up in the pool of blood. He lowered his sword, kicked off the body that was pierced by his blade and sheathed it. “But I do need a good bath to get rid of this filth.”
