Chapter 8: Training

Mami leapt forward to do the first strike as Canta watched on helplessly. She swung her right arm to the side in attempts to slash Rina, but she easily leaned back to dodge the blow. Following up, Mami switched arms and used the other sword to stab her opponent’s stomach, but again, Rina brushed it off by performing a backflip, which hit Mami on the chin. The blow knocked her back a couple of steps.

“Heh, whose all talk and no walk?” Rina mocked her as she was standing still with her lance on the side. “Yeah, you are right, maybe it is I who will the match between us!”

Mami smiled and spat out the blood that was in her mouth. She wiped off whatever that remained. Both the girls had their weapons up for defense and were strafing, waiting for an opening.

Canta and Lorenzo looked on to see who would actually win the fight between them, while Tomomi could only see them in her dreams. How can I be so useless in a time like this? I always overcame my problems in the past and now… I’m watching the two people who can defeat the Shade Crawlers… defeat themselves! After an intense faceoff, the girls were at it again.

This time, Rina was the one who first did the attack. Charging forward with the tip of her lance, she performed a thrust attack aim for her chest. Mami evaded that attack with ease, but Rina added another technique, where she hit Mami in the back of the leg with the butt of the lance. The impact was quite forceful, as it caught Mami off balance, but being nimble and agile, she did a backflip to catch her balance once again.

Seeing this as a glorious opportunity, Rina quickly raised her lance at Mami’s neck but she performed a block in the shape of an X, locking it into place. She held the lance tightly with both of the swords to the point where Rina couldn’t move her lance. Mami grunted loudly and she threw the lance down on the ground and pounced on Rina. Mami had the swords in an X like formation on Rina’s neck.

“It’s over, you oaf…” she gave her a mocking smile.

Rina closed her eyes and laughed. “Mami, you fool. As a former assassin, you do realize that the match is over… when someone dies!” As quick as lightning, Rina reached behind her back to draw out two hidden daggers and placed it close to Mami’s neck.

Mami didn’t flinch, despite the steel tasting her blood. “So… whose going to die first…” Rina gave her back an icy smile, “You… or me?”

Canta could only stare back in shock. She knew that there was nothing that could stop the two from fighting… at this rate, both girls will be seriously hurt… or even killed! She looked around to see if anyone could help, but they were just as helpless as she was.

Mami widen her stance a little bit and slowly pressed her swords at Rina’s neck. “Don’t test me… oaf. I’ll kill you right now…!”

Rina took her challenge and pressed harder at the neck. "I don't think you have what it takes!" She taunted back, "You've gotten soft! I know for a fact that you don't have the courage to kill me!"

Hearing her taunts made Mami face darkened, but she still managed to make a smile. Before any further movements were made, the front door was busted down coming with a roar. “WHAT IN DAMNATION ARE YOU GIRLS DOING TO EACH OTHER?!”

Everyone in that room looked at the entrance and saw a shadowy humanoid figure covering the door. “DROP YOUR WEAPONS… NOW!” Upon closer look, everyone saw it was wearing a white cloak, similar to Mami’s. He unveiled his blonde hair, blue eyes and his age. Rina instantly dropped her weapons in awe, while Mami lowered them, still being a little cautious. “MAMI, I’M NOT GOING TO REPEAT MYSELF, DROP YOUR WEAPONS!”
