"Lady Sif...the party has arrived."
The party has arrived. Those words rung in her ears for a while before she was finally able to move. He was here. He was home. He was back. "Lady Sif?" The courts person who had been sent to tell her shifted awkwardly on his feet before she finally turned to face him and nod in acknowledgement of his message. He looked somewhat relieved before he scurried off.
A sigh left her lips, she was not ready to see him again, not after all this time.
Her feet felt heavy as she walked towards the throne room where he would be brought to face Odin's justice."My Sif you came...." The queen reached for her, holding her hand gently.
"Of course my Queen. The prisoner must be guarded fully." Her voice cracked a little but she kept her cool.
"Sif.....he is not just a prisoner, he is my son. Our Loki has returned home to us." Her eyes were full of hope and happiness, Sif could not understand it, all she felt was despair and anger. Alas Frigga was always more of a gentle soul than herself. With a nod she separated herself and took her place at the door.
She could hear the chains well before he came through the door. He looked the same, well a little darker in the eyes and dishevelled from his adventures. He looked like Thor had given him a few rounds. Their eyes met briefly but it felt like an eternity, the emerald burning into her, causing her heart to race wildly. He flashed her a meaningful smile, one only she could decipher but it wasn't the same, he wasn't the same. With a frown she looked down to the floor, filled with mixed emotions, love and hate.
The outcome was expected, he would be locked up for eternity. She was tasked with guarding him until he was in the dungeon. He stared at her the entire way down, she could feel it in the back of her head. "In there....." she pointed to his cell. Frigga had provided fine furniture and books for him, more comfort than your usual prisoner. "Leave us." She ordered once he was situated.
"Are you going to talk to me now?" He cocked his head to one side, watching her intently as she secured his prison. "Sif....." He barked at her.
"What Loki? What? We have nothing to talk about!" She snarled, leaning in close to the cell barrier, eyeing him fully for the first time since his arrival. "You left me.....me! You chose a life of villainy over the life we were planning."
He smirked at her response, almost pleased to get a reaction.
"My Sif.....I did not leave you. I had a calling, a need elsewhere, all temporary. I would have returned for you. Returned in victory and glory. Returned a better man who can give you the power you deserve." He was so close to the barrier himself that should it not be there he could have touched her.
She felt a sense of nausea as he called her his. His words seemed logical but warped, she did not crave power and especially not from the glory of death he was going for.
"You are truly dark inside Loki. I mean I knew it was always there but it used to excite me because it was only ever pranks and mischief but this....." she gestured at him. "...this is not the man I once loved. He died when he fell from the bridge. You are not him." Silence filled the air between them before he spoke again.
"You still love me. I can see it." Again his emerald bore into her blue, heated, meaningful. "Come inside. Don't let me out just come inside and let me show you."
"Loki....." She grimaced. He rolled his eyes in response to her wrinkled up nose.
"No not sex. Once upon a time perhaps but even I know is not the time. Please?"She stood for a moment, her mouth slightly open as she debated the seriousness of his request. With a heavy sigh she let herself in and stood before him. Arms crossed. Face stern.
"So?" A pout formed on her lips. Her jaw set hard as he stepped forward towards her.
"Say you love me still." His tone was soft, almost like the Loki she once loved.
"Why me? Why don't you say it?" She was defiant, why did she have to let her guard down?
"Fine. I love you. Always have. I may have left my fair Sif, but it was not by choice." She felt his breath on her face as she spoke, his eyes still connected to hers. "I fell into a place a did not know, found a darkness I did not foresee in myself. But I never felt more worthy of something, it felt right, and I followed the journey. It was exciting but I never lost sight of you. I wanted to achieve something great, to be worthy of you fully. Like Thor is." He ran a finger down her cheek and across her jaw, his eyes sincere. "They always wanted you with Thor ever since we were children. Yet when you fell for me I vowed to prove to them that I could be worthy you too. That we could be a just as powerful of a couple as you and Thor should have been."
"Loki......I never loved Thor. He never loved me. Perhaps one day we could have been accepted as a couple but you have blown that apart. Our future is gone." She stepped back, trying to remain out of reach. His touch still sent shivers through her, and still caused her heart to beat erratically.
"IT IS NOT GONE!" He screamed as he grabbed her back towards him, holding her close to his face. "Sif.....we can still have it. Marriage. Children. We can just run away and elope. Live elsewhere."
"No.....you have slain many innocents. You have betrayed the throne. Your mother. Your brother. Your father.....me."
"My father betrayed me. He lied to me. The revelation it sent me crazy and into a downward spiral. I can come out of it." His fingers traced the sides of her face and his lips brushed against hers, his breathing matching the rate of her own. "I still want you. Only you."
She couldn't help but kiss him deeply, their breath meeting, their tongues gliding. It was passionate and heated, for a moment the pair forgot where they were until Sif pulled away.
"No. We can't do this. Loki I loved you with all my heart. I still do but I can not be with a man who killed for fun. I can not bring children into the world with a murderer. Loki....." Her tone broke as she pulled away properly, only lingering onto one of his hands. "....this has to be goodbye." The warrior moved fast out of the cell, securing the barrier again.
"Sif....don't you dare leave me!" He shouted as she walked hastily towards the exit of the dungeon. "SIF! YOUR HEART IS MINE! IT WILL ALWAYS BE MINE." He roared as his magic began wrecking the furniture in anger. His cries faded once she slammed the doors of the dungeons shut, leaning against them, her eyes wet. She closed them and sighed, leaning her head against the door, feeling weary. Her heart ached and her stomach felt like it had just fallen out but she knew she was doing the right thing.
"Lady Sif? Are you alright?" A familiar voice greeted her. She opened her eyes to see Thor.
"Aye. Just securing the prisoner." She stood firm and forced a smile but Thor knew her well and put an arm around her shoulders holding her close.
"All will be well my friend. All will be well." She always found comfort in his words, he was a true friend.
"Will you visit him?" She asked as they walked down the hall.
"One day....." He answered but she knew only if the day came when they needed him. She feared that day.
