Fili awoke in a cold sweat, the images of the battle still in his mind. It seemed like he could never shake the thoughts of it all. Turning over to face you, he grabbed your waist and buried his head in your neck. In his mind, the screams of the mothers of the soldiers who died wailed and sobbed as the screams of those who lived filled the Great Hall.
"Prince Fili?" He heard someone speak, but it didn't register. "Prince Fili?"
Fili blinked as a hand was waved in front of his face. Then it clicked. Oh, Mahal, the slaughter. He looked back at the battlefield and saw that there was still more soldiers being brought in. There were hundreds of them. All of them fought to help protect the very mountain that he was standing in. It was almost painful to think about. There were the lucky few of the battle who were able to escape it with no real damage, just had the loss of his brethren and kinsmen. They were the few who would be able to return to their families at no cost.
"Prince Fili, are you alright?" He heard again, the voice seemed gentle and kind. "Your head is bleeding."
The prince touched a his forehead twhere the cut was. He must have not noticed it before. Wiping the blood on his pant leg, he thanked the person and went to get the cut fixed. Not even a moment later, he was being pulled aside by someone he didn't even know. The man told him that himself that his brother and uncle were found, and they weren't breathing. The medics who found them tried everything they could, but nothing would work. They were gone...
"Are you okay?" You whispered, sleep making your voice sound husky. "Was it another nightmare?" Fili nodded.
You could feel Fili relax in your arms as you rubbed his back. It was going to be awhile before Fili could settle back down and go to sleep.
"It was just a dream, love," You mumbled into his ear, but he shook his head in protest. "It was a dream, Fili. Everyone lived, remember? Your family is just down the hall sleeping."
Fili sniffled a few times before nodding his head in response, holding you closer with each second.
