I went down stairs to great my mother and grandmother. We exchanged happy "good mornings" and sat down for breakfast. We talked about the weather and training but we never came to the subject of Trent.

After breakfast we went out to the back yard to find out what my element was. My mother and grandmother argued about whether I was earth or air. My grandmother thought I was earth because I was solid when it came to making choices. My mom thought I was air because I was free and I could get around anything with ease.

The test consisted of me having to hold a candle that represented each of the elements. We started with air. As soon as my grandmother lit the candle, a rush of wind blew it out. My grandmother smirked then handed me a candle that represented earth. When my grandmother lit the earth candle it got heavy and I dropped it. They both looked at me bewildered then they looked at the three remaining candles. I looked at them as well and was drawn to the red one. Without thinking I picked it up and lit it. The flames shot up and I felt a rush of warmth course through me.

My mother and grandmother gaped at me. "None of the witches in our family has ever had an affinity for fire before," my grandmother said.

"So I'm the first?" I asked shocked.

They both nodded. I felt excited and scared at the same time.

"I'm not sure where we should go from here," my grandmother said looking at me. "We've never trained a fire witch before."

I looked at the blazing candle in my hand and get an irresistible urge to touch it. My mother and grandmother were talking over what they should do with me but I wasn't paying attention. I took one hand off the candle and touched the flames. It didn't burn. It was warm and welcoming. I took my hand away and the flame stayed in my palm.

I played with the flames in my hand, making them go higher and lower. I put the candle down and passed the flame from one hand to the other then I split it into two flames. I had one in each hand and though it would be awesome if they connected and formed a heart. The second the image formed in my head, the two separate flames came together ad formed a heart. I looked at it in awe.

"Ella?" my grandmother said. "How are you doing that?"

"I'm not sure," I said honestly. "I just thought of a flaming heart and here it is."

They both gawked at me and the flames in my hand as it changed size and shape. I put my hands out palms up and imagined the flames shooting up ward the sky. In a heartbeat the flames shot up at least ten feet from my hands making my mother and grandmother jump back in surprise.

"Ellie why don't you put the flames out?" said my mother.

"Yes, my darling," agreed my grandmother. "Lets go in for a bit."

"Okay," I say and put the flames out.

"Ellie," I heard Trent say in awe. "That was amazing!"
