Heartbreak after heartbreak had ended up leaving Luna emptier and emptier each time. She wasn't the type of person to date anyone with a pulse or have a lot of relationships. She had a few, one when she was 5 years old with one of her friends in kindergarten.
But that ended quickly after she had given him a handful of dandelions and weeds, and he threw them on the ground saying that "weeds are not flowers." It is safe to say that it didn't hurt that much, but it still hurt her nonetheless.
In middle school, she had one of those relationships that never seem to last that long. Her alleged best friend ended up dating the same boy behind her back. That one definitely hurt more. But at the same time, she new that this was just young stupid love, and was not going to turn into anything serious anytime soon, however, that did not prevent her from hurting.
Once she was in high school, she was more than excited to start this new episode in her life. For the first couple of years in high school she hadn't dated anyone or really even think about it. But toward the end of the whole high school experience, she had met the one who she thought was the one. They had dated when they were both in their senior year, and the difference between him and the past 'boyfriends' was that she actually fell in love with him, and he made her think he loved her too.
They ended up going to the same college together, which assured Luna that maybe this would work out. Maybe he would stick around longer than the boy from kindergarten and the her best friend and the boy from middle school.
Maybe, just maybe she would have someone to stick around with her, the only person that would maybe want to stick around with her. They ended up breaking up during sophomore year of college because they had gotten too busy for each other, and it was a mutual agreement. Luna was a bit sad but her heart was not broken.
But Luna's look on love was not lost, because at the end of senior year of uni, they ended up back together and Luna was as happy as ever. On the night of their graduation, they had gone to a party at some frat house. Luna had planned on having a good time, she was going to relax after a crazy 4 years, and after a crazy life in general.
But that hope disappeared an hour into the party when she found her boyfriend locking lips with some random girl. She had walked right up to hm, poured a drink on the girl and slapped her boyfriend in the face and stormed off into some random room.
Soon after, her boyfriend had followed her to try to make up some excuse and to win her back. They had fought for a bit before it had all gone silent. She had forgiven him, because she believed him to be her true love, her one and only. They had planned on not going back out, and that was when the had started to make out.
One thing lead to another, and there was more yelling. Terrified screams emitted from that bedroom, but they came unheard because of the loud music that blared throughout the house. Nobody could hear Luna's cries and screams to have somebody help her. Nobody could save her from her boyfriend who had just forced himself on her. He had taken what didn't belong to him. She was too good for him, and he absolutely obliterated her heart.
He left her there, in the room, naked, alone, and terrified, and absolutely heartbroken. Not only had Luna had her virginity taken away from her, but she had also lost her guard, her spirit, and her belief in anything good in this world. She had come to the conclusion that nobody would love her, and that was how it was meant to be. But that wouldn't stop her from loving others.
But you see, the thing is that not only romantic relationships could break your heart. Not all love stems from your romantic partner. Friends and family emit love, and they also break hearts. Her family was never there for her. They weren't abusive in a cruel way, but they were emotionally abusive.
They ignored Luna, they had made Luna feel worthless and unloved. She never received anything, no gifts, no compliments and praises, no love. She had trouble loving herself, but it didn't stop her from loving. Maybe that's why she gave out her love so easily, she wanted it in return. Maybe she just wanted to know what it felt like to love and to be loved, but now that vision had been damaged.
