Frankie's point of view
--
I've been walking for hours... Ok maybe a few minutes. I can still see the fire station in the background where Sierra is. Maybe I should turn back? No, I must keep going to save Zach.
The bookbag on my back threatens to pull me over with weight. I have packed it to the max with everything I think I will need: a change of clothes, a jacket, and lots of food and water.
I put my bookbag down. It is way to heavy. I can not carry this with so much weight. I take out a few foods and some water and hide them behind the bushes.
There, now it's lighter. I have enough food and water to last me a day. I guess that makes sense... If I was to keep the food and water in there I would get tired easier because of the weight and I would end up eating and drinking more, where if I was to lighten the load I wouldn't get as hungry and thirsty from exhaustion.
Now that I've proven my theory, I zip up my bookbag and put it on, making sure to mentally take a picture of the bush if I need to come back.
It has been a day and I have very little food left. I feel like I have been walking in circles and circles and circles. Seriously, every house looks the same! I need to entertain myself till I get some sort of hint of where Zach is.
I look at the house on my left. It is a brick house with a bright green door. There are once thriving plants in the front yard and around the sides. I wonder what kind of family would have lived in there? Probably a very happy couple with 3 kids, no 2 kids, a boy and a girl.
-
"Daaaaadddy!", a small little blonde headed girl screams as her older and much taller brother dangles her by her ankle. The father rushes in. "What happened sweetie? Ronald David Campe! What are you doing to your sister!"
The brother drops the girl and she runs over to her dad and wraps her small arms around his leg.
"Dad! She was flinging her cereal at me!"
The small little blonde head looks up at her daddy with pleading eyes. The father picks her up and balances her on his hip.
"Ronald, you know Mary would never do that! Have a little respect! Your mother is sick in bed and you can't help me take care of your little sister?!"
"Sorry dad", the boy gives in and walks away, but not before the little blonde head sticks out her tongue at him in power.
-
Too bad they are all dead now. Every one of them, gone. I pick up the pace to keep the tears from coming. I can't think about death, only about living. I have to keep thinking about Zach and not about...Sierra.I quickly look for something to distract me. A little bit in front of me I see Casey, briskly walking somewhere. Where? Maybe to food? I run up to her.
"Casey! Wait up!" My bag moves up and down as I run up.
Casey turns around rather quickly, but when she realizes it's me she smiles and slows down a bit.
"Hi Frankie. What are you doing so far away from the fire station?"
"I'm going to find Zach. My gut instinct tells me he's in trouble and I know you didn't want anyone to go after him, but-"
"No need to explain yourself. I'm sure you have you reasons, as I have mine."
"So where are you heading?"
"To my house. I'm going to restock my food."
I want to ask her if I can take some of her food with me, but before I ask she talks.
"I'm sure you need some food, Frankie. How about you come with me and we can restock your bag"
"Thanks!"
We walk the rest of the way in peaceful silence. When we get there Casey leads me inside.
"Thank you again for letting me restock."
"No problem, the food is over there."
Casey closes the front door behind me and locks it. Weird. I'm sure it's nothing.
I put my bag down on the counter and start to walk over to the food. On the way I notice a small table with a picture on it.
It is a couple that looks like Casey. On the left is a tall woman who has long brown hair and blue eyes. On the right is a sturdy man with brown eyes and blonde hair. They both have faint freckles. A young brown headed girl is up to her parents waist. She is holding a small pink blanket around a cute baby girl that seems to be laughing. All of them have grins from ear to ear. It seems like such a happy day for them.
"That is my family."
I jump out of surprise as Casey talks behind me.
"They were my whole world. I'm the little toddler in the photo. My little sister was alive for barley a year when The Trojan hit her. She just learned how to walk when she died. I just wish it could have been me instead of her. For her I live and for her you will help me."
"Help you with what?", I question as I turn around. Casey has a tear flowing down her face.
"Help me find the cure," she says with a smile. The holds up a needle in her hand.
"Um... Casey I don't know what you are talking about. Maybe you should just put that needle down and we can have a nice discussion about-" Casey jabs the needle into my forearm and pushes down the pump to put to liquid into my body. Casey grabs me from behind so I don't fall over and my body goes limp.
The whole world goes black.
