Frankie's Point of View

--

"Analysis 96% done", the computer blares throughout the room. Casey smiles while looking at the computer screen.

"We've got to find a way out of here", Zach whispers to me so Casey can't hear us.

I nod and he smiles. I forgot how cute that smile was. I smile back.

"Analysis 97% done."

Casey gets out behind the screen and walks over to us.

"Just accept defeat. You will not survive. It is the end for the both of you."

"It is NOT the end, for either of us. We won't give up," I blurt out. Why did I say that? It won't help any to stand up to the enemy when she has the upper hand.

"Analysis 98% done."

"Yes! Finally! Almost there!", Casey screams in excitement.

Zach straightens himself and I can't help but staring at him.

Casey rolls her eyes.

"You two better say your last goodbyes. Once the analysis is done, I will inject a serum into Zach that will produce him lifeless. You little Zachie-poo will be dead in a few minutes, Frankie.", Casey says mockingly.

Casey is just sick, and not in the good way.

----------------------------------------------

And apparently I'm sick too, in the other way, because at that exact moment I cough, not just a little cough but a full-blown-can't-breathe cough.

Casey freaks out, which I would expect because this now clarifies I have The Trojan and I could "give" it to her, but Zach does something unexpected. He smiles, just so I can see. I thought he actually liked me. I am so confused. Maybe he's just smiling because he thought of a joke to go with the situation... With that I smile back at him because it's probably a funny joke. I'll have to get him to tell me it sometime. If there is a sometime. My face falls flat. I just coughed. I have The Trojan. I will die.

Meanwhile, Casey is typing frantically on the computer.

"No! This isn't possible! How can it be? Zach gave her the cure so there is no way for her to have it, but she does!", Casey mumbles to herself.

"Good Job, Frankie. I would have never thought of that.", Zach whispers to me with a smile.

Thought of what? What did I do? I coughed, but if anything that would be a bad thing. I reassure myself that Zach must have a legitimate reason. He must.

At that moment the bands on my wrists and ankles opened. I fall down on the ground from gravity and look around. Did Casey just let me go? I guess so because it that moment Casey yells at me as if she were my mother mad at me for not doing my chores.

"Go!", she yells, pointing to the door. I just stand there looking at her like deer in headlights.

"Go! GO FRANKIE! Leave! I can't have you contaminating everything I've worked for! Go!"

I run out the door in my fright and confusion. I turn back at Zach when I reach the door. He is chuckling. His face falls serious when Casey turns back at him, a little calmer now. He acts like he wasn't just laughing.

I turn around with a look of confusion and walk outside.

When I get outside, I don't know where to go. I don't have anyone to go to. Maybe Sierras still alive? I start to run to the fire station, but lose my breath very soon.

Oh yea, stage 2-out of breath with very little excersize.

I slow down to a walk. I hope Sierra will wait for me, if she can.

Behind me I hear Casey's voice scream.

"No! It's all wrong! You can't have it too! Get away from me!"

She runs up behind me, looking behind her. Not looking where she's going, she bumps directly into me.

"Ah! I've touched it!", she screams and speeds off in the direction opposite the fire station.

Before I can process anything, Zach walks out.

"Miss me?", he says with a smile.

I walk up to him, not wanting to exhaust myself and hug him.

I don't know exactly what just happened, but Zach and I made it out!

"Let's get going! I'm hungry!", he says with a smile, walking towards the store.

He might be hungry, but I'm not... because I'm sick.

"Me too.", I hear myself say.

We start walking towards to the food.
