                                                             Picture is of Lavadia Cole.

"I volunteer as Tribute!" my voice boomed over the roar of the district 4 crowd.

With a smile from our district escort, she sent the small twelve year old girl back to her place as Peacekeepers escorted me to the stage.

"And your name, dear?" The Green haired woman smiled, revealing golden teeth.

"Lavadia Cole." I offered to the cameras throwing my blond hair over my shoulder.

Gracia, our districts escort, smiled and spoke into the mike "Well! Lets hear it for our Volunteer Lavadia Cole!"

The crowed roared with applause as I held my head up high.

"And now, for the boys!" Gracia waved her hands dramatically as she pranced in her high heels over to the crystal ball containing the male Tributes.

She circled her hand a moment and dug deep into the bowl and withdrew a small folded paper.

In our district it wont matter if you're chosen. There will always be someone to take your place after illegally training in our academy.

I cast my gaze to the crowd looking for my fellow tribute, and brother, Titus. I knew he'd volunteer as soon as the name of the helpless is called.

"Aqua kilm! Where are you dear?" Gracia smiled and waved her hand to come to her.

A over weight child began his short walk of fame as the voice of Titus called to the rescue "I, Titus Cole, Volunteer as Tribute!"

The boy had a flash of relief but quickly recovered as he remembered, all of Panem was watching him.

My brother strutted out of the 17 year olds section, just as I did from the 18 year olds section.

"Oh my! A brother and sister team! This year should be exciting!" Gracia squealed as she took Titus by the upper arm and helped him up the stairs.

"Lets hear it one more time for our brother and sister Tributes!" and once more, the crowed chanted our names.

Lavadia! Titus! Lavadia! Titus! Lavadia! Titus! Lavadia! Titus!

And that soon turned into the chanting of 'District 4' as we were lead off the stage, the anthem sounded and we gracefully descended to the rooms to say our  'final farewells.'

My brother and I were split into different rooms as my mother walked in, with an air of unease.

She did not want us to Volunteer this year.

"Hello, mom." I smiled and took the small woman in my arms.

I take my fathers height and stand a towering 6 feet, lean with muscles from working in the ocean and all the training.

My mother is 5'5, and my brother is 6'2.

"Why did you do that Dee? If I lose you or your brother i'll be all alone.." She said with tears brimming her eyes.

Crap.

"Don't worry mom..." I started but realised her argument had so much purchase to it, I had no chance to win the argument.

"I love you, Lavadia. Please try to come home.. I have to go see Titus before time is up." She said wiping her eyes, most likely remembering my fathers untimely death.

Shark attack.

Not very uncommon.

"Goodbye mom." I gave one last smile as she left the room.
