Jack drove me to the police station while millions of thoughts raced through my mind while only one question never got answered, why?

Why would he do this to himself? He just ruined his whole life for nothing! I didn't want to think about living without him but I knew that this was inevitable and we'd be tore apart sooner or later; the thought honestly broke my heart.

I thanked Jack before running out of the car and into the station, frantically searching for him. Jack had agreed to wait in the car for me as I could tell that he sensed that I'd rather he not be there while I spoke to my best friend.

Upon not seeing him, I asked for him at the front desk only to find that he'd already been taken into the custody as he pleaded guilty during questioning. The news caused my heart to drop further, there was no escaping this, He was gone for however long they decided.

"Can I see him? I need to speak to him urgently, please, I'm desperate." I begged as the woman rolled her eyes at me.
"I'm sorry but it's simply not possible, it's the rules."
I bit my lip, I'd never wanted to do this but desperate times called for desperate measures.

Taking off my shoes, I placed them on the desk and her eyes widened as she stared at them.
"If you let me see him, these are yours, they're from the new Tommy Summer collection that comes out on Friday." I sighed as she suddenly looked at me with recognition in her eyes.
"You're Cassidy Jenkins!" She exclaimed as I winced slightly but nodded, still not used to people recognising me, it was all so foreign.

"You should've just said before silly!" She giggled, swiping the shoes towards her before standing and beginning to walk, clearly expecting me to follow which I did.

She let me down bleak, lifeless corridors that caused me to shiver as I took in the appearance, Ethan won't last a day. Our footsteps echoed in the silence and every window was barred as though it was a film. It really wasn't a good place.

We finally stopped outside the cell and the woman lowered her voice, "If a guard comes by Ethan's room, he'll give warning before walking in, you need to hide in his chest that'll be at the end of the bed, it's big enough, don't worry. Once you've exited, if you bump into someone, ask dumb and pretend you was looking for the bathroom, got it?" She asked, narrowing her eyes and I nodded quickly, wanting nothing more than to just see Ethan.

Slowly, I walked in and instantly, I was greeted by my best-friend's tear stained face.
"Ethan..." I choked, feeling my own cheeks grow wet.
"F*ck, Cass, I messed up so bad, I messed up..." He sobbed as he held me to him tightly.
Slowly pulling away, he cupped my cheeks, staring deeply into my eyes, "How are you here? I'm not supposed to have visitors for the first month."

Smiling sadly at him, I shrugged, "I may have had to bribe a little to bend the rules."
"I f*cking love you..." he muttered, pulling me to him once again, the familiarity making me burst into tears all over again.

"I don't want to do anything without you E, you're my best friend! I don't want to wake up knowing that I can't text you my dreams or meet up for ice cream, this sucks so much and I hate you a little bit for doing this for me, she got punished enough without you ending her life. I know she was mean to me E but did she really deserve that?" I whispered, my voice cracking in pain.
"I know she didn't, don't you think I know that! I regretted it the moment I did it but there were witnesses and it was too late to run, I was caught up in the instant and I wish I could turn back time so it'd never happen but this is reality and it has happened. I'm going to be haunted by this for the rest of my life, but I want you to think of the positives, she can't hurt you again!"

"I wish I could think positively but it's kinda hard to think that someone's death is a positive." I said quietly, staring at my feet as Ethan let out a frustrated sigh, tugging at his hair due to stress.

"Thank you for coming Cass, you really didn't have to but seeing you helped distract me for a moment and I'm so grateful that I could see you. It's your choice as to whether you come to see me but you can bet that I'll be praying you do. I'll miss you for this month but after that we can see each other weekly and it can be then when you fill me in on all your weird and wonderful dreams." He explained with a sad smile.

"I'll see you in a month E..." I whispered, kissing his cheek softly before a loud sob escaped my lips.
"I-I'm sorry..." I cried, hugging him so tightly as though I was worried he'd disappear.

"I'm always here. Don't ever forget." He replied, kissing my forehead before I slowly left his cell, only feeling marginally better than I had beforehand.

Luckily, there was no run-ins with security and I was straight out to Jack's car, instantly getting engulfed by him once I was inside.
"You'll be okay," he assured, "I'll make sure of that."

I nodded wordlessly and allowed him to drive me back to the hotel. I needed to pack as we were travelling home tomorrow, luckily Ethan was also being transferred to our hometown prison so he was still local for when we were allowed to visit.

Quietly thanking Jack, I raced up to the room to pack but when I saw Grayson sat on the bed with his head in his hands, my tears flowed freely again.
