Chapter 16
Sonia was held by Theo in the front passenger seat for what felt like forever. Her hands had loosened their grip on his shirt; her hair had fallen over her face, parts of it damp by her tears. Somehow, she must have fallen asleep like that because Sonia woke up to the sound of gentle music playing in her ears, distant, but there.
Opening her eyes, she didn’t recognise her surroundings. The walls were bare and the bed was small, the window was open and the cold air was getting in, but she was wrapped up what felt like three blankets. They smelled like sandalwood and felt like feathers. The sun was drenching the room with shades of gold, it seemed like it was a 2 o’clock sun. Gently pushing the covers off her, Sonia started to wonder where she was. She walked over to the door and poked her out. It was all so unfamiliar to her. she didn’t recognise anything, but the rest of the house was just as bare as the room she was in. To her right, she heard a baby cry and the sounds of an older woman gently singing a lullaby.
“That’s Danny.” A voice behind her made her jump, nearly hitting her head into the door frame. Theo laughed at her jumpiness. Sonia turned around and slapped him in the chest, it was pretty funny.
“You scared the crap out of me you loser. How’d you get in behind me?” She asked, tired.
“I was out on the roof.” Theo pointed to the window that was now shut. “I go there to think sometimes because it’s so peaceful and beautiful up there. Kinda like you when you sleep.” There was an almost amused tone to his voice as he took a few steps closer to Sonia. Sonia’s breathe caught in her throat, not being able to think of something to say. He really left her speechless. A cheeky smile crept up on her face.
“Alright, Edward Cullen, just don’t sparkle and we’re cool.” Sonia doubled over laughing as Theo stared at her unamused.
After recovering, Sonia looked up at Theo who had taken a seat on the floor, his back against the wall looking glumly. Sonia kneeled down opposite him; her eyes were filled with concern, feeling she had crossed a line.
“Hey… you know I was kidding right? I’d probably kill you if you sparkled.” She rested a comforting had on Theo’s knee, whose eyes meet hers fleetingly and the noticed a playful look flash across his face.
Sonia was pinned against the ground, her sides being poked by Theo, putting his entire body weight onto her tickling her sides. Between gasps of air, Sonia pushed Theo’s chest, trying to get him off of her to no avail. He was heavy! Laughter had filled the air and everything was at peace, he had stopped tickling her, but he still lay on top of her like a lifeless body. Sonia knew there was no point trying to push him off, she wasn’t strong enough for that. She liked the feel of his body on top of her; they fit perfectly together like a set of jigsaw puzzles. She felt his legs rest on either side of her legs, his chest hard against hers pressing her down, their foreheads and noses slightly touching, his hands on either side of her head holding himself up. His lips grazing hers, enough to send her body tingling. She forgot about time and all relative dimensions in space. It didn’t matter to her anymore, any of that, as long as she had Theo by her side, she could handle anything. Sonia was mesmerized by his eyes, she noticed the brown had specs of gold in them. This boy was really something.
Much to Sonia’s disappointment, Theo rolled off of her and got up, sticking his hand out to her to pull her up as well. What a gentleman. Sonia was pulled up with so much force she fell forward into Theo. Instinctively; he wrapped his arms around her tightly, before looking into her eyes.
“What happened?” He asked her quietly, his face full of concern.
“You pulled me up so fast I fell into you.” Sonia bit her lip, knowing what he really was asking was about her major breakdown in the car. She turned her head, looking at the time, its read 10:55am; she’d been here most of the morning. She’d have to leave soon, to be with her family.
