Chapter 15
"So how'd it go?" Catherine bit her lip as Sonia pulled the door closed behind her. There was a teasing smile playing on her mothers lips as she took the few steps towards the kitchen. There weren't enough words to describe how she felt. How being with him felt. Sonia replayed in her mind the images of his broken face as he told her what happened, his burdens, his worries, the gut wrenching feeling she got just looking at him. She wanted to reach out and pull away all the sadness from him. He didn't deserve that pain. She understood how having those things happen can change someone. Standing outside with his arms around her she felt safe. It was all that had mattered to her, regardless of how short they had known each other. He was the puzzle that went missing from her life all those months which she found at the most unexpected moment. There wasm't much she could say to describe that feeling.
Sonia rested her elbows on her mother's shoulders and exhaled the breath she hadn't realised she was holding. "God, I wish I met him earlier..." Sonia let out a shaky laugh, joining her mother. Catherine clapped her hands together in joy and walked over to her daughter.
"You've grown up to become such a beautiful girl, my darling." Sonia could see the tears stuck in her mothers eyes. She knew what she was thinkng. "I wish your father was here today, he'd be so proud of you too..." Sonia reached out and grabbed her mothers hand, gently stroking it. She pulled her mother in for a hug and rested her chin on her head. Wrapping her arms aroun her mother, she felt her shift, her body relaxing against hers. Sonia heard the distant drum of the engine pulling out of the drive way and off down the street. She'd tell her mum, she deserves to know.

Sonia lay in bed, not being able to sleep. Her mind was reeling of all the possible directions her relationship could take with Theo. Checking her phone for the millionth time since she first lay in bed about three hours ago, Sonia dropped it back onto the bedside table, disappointed? No, it wasn't that. She didn't know what she was expecting... Maybe a text from him confessing in a lengthy text how he is unable to sleep thinking about her. Or maybe he had fallen asleep? Letting out a shaky breathe, she threw her head back before deciding to get out of bed.
Toptoeing to her desk, she opened the bottom drawer and pulled out a dusty moleskine notebook. She ran her fingers gingerly over the faded gold lettering that spelt out her name before blowing off the dust and grabbing a pen. Flicking the light on in the window seat, the room illuminated as the light bounced off the dark surfaces in the shadows. The heavy feel of the notebook in her hands brought tears to her eyes. It was given to her by her father on her 16th bithday. She wrote in it everynight, dedicating the few minutes before she went to bed to write a few lines. She distinctly remembers the her father's laugh as he gave her a hug. Back then she was going through her bitchy I-don't-need-anyone-don'-talk-to-me phase, so as a means to counter that, her father got her this so she can write whatever she wants. She was angry child and she now she looks back and laughs at the stuff that were in the notebook. Setting the pen aside, not bothering to write anything in it, she read and re-read the very first entries.
Dear Diary,
Dad thinks i should be letting out my feelings or whatever so i don't turn into a bitter raging bitch. I can't believe he'd say that to me then laughs at me! ugh, he's so annoying. sometimes i just want to run away and forget them all, startover. Anyways no more of the crazy dad person. he ruins my vibeeeee.
Sonia bit her lip to stop the laughter from escaping, not wanting to wake up her mum. She doubted Catherine was asleep thought. The last entry in her diary was dated two weeks before her father's day, those days, she only wrote when there was something good or really bad from that day. Her daily entries had cut down to about three to four times a week. Flipping to the last empty page, Sonia wrote the date and began pouring out her words. At first, it was hard, not finding what to write or how to express what she was feeling. But she managed. She wrote for the longest time, filling up nearly three whole pages, only to look up when the flashing of her phone indicated she had a message.
