Chapter 14 - Through Theo's Eyes

He held her hand as he walked her to her door. With the moonlight above them and the chill in the air, he wanted nothing more than to wrap her up in his arms and keep her close. And he would have, but it was the look of uncertainty in her eyes that held him back. Their eye’s met as they stood in front of her door. She shrugged off the coat which he had placed over her shoulders as they walked to the car.

“So…” Theo was the one to break the silence first, their hands still interlinked. They eye’s met and now there was a familiar look in them as the moon bounced off, her eyes were filled with content. She bit her lip before looking toward the door. They tension that was in the air after Theo found out about her father was hard and the air was tense as everything in him collapsed. But for the sake of their first date as a couple, he pushed aside the wave of unimaginable anxiety. The water stung his dry throat with each sip of icy water.

“Hey.” He lifted his gaze off the concrete to meet hers. “You know you can kiss me right?” Her face broke into a grin before he leaned in for a lingering kiss on her soft, delicate lips with a trace of chocolate. He took a step forward, cradling her face in his hands. For what felt like forever, doused in the light, their faces pulled apart. He kissed the top of her head before pulling her into a hug. “You know you scared the crap out of me tonight right?” he whispered in her ear solemnly and felt her body stiffen against his before she took a step back to see his face.

“Why’d you think that?” Her voice was quiet. “I thought… I thought that you’d blame me for your father’s death.” She opened her mouth, a look of protest on her face but before she could begin what he assumed was break up with him he cut her off. “I mean because I told you that it was my fault that my brother came back driving while he was drunk then…. Then them all dying.” Sonia took another step back, hugging herself. She looked so vulnerable it made him want to cry. He leant against the door and ran his fingers through is hair. “Please don’t leave me, not when I just got you.” His shoved his hands in his pocket and looked to the ground, not willing to meet her eyes. He was afraid that if he saw her face his heart would break in two. He meant it, he didn’t want her to leavr him so soon. Sure they had only meet less than two weeks ago but in those two weeks it was like they had just begun a lifetime together. She marked a new chapter in his life and gave the strength to stay away his old habits.

“Theo Evans.” She cocked her hip and turned him to face her. “If you for one second think that I’m going leave then think again because there is no one who has made me feel as light hearted and stress-free as you have these past 11 months.” Theo watched her shocked as a fire danced in her eyes, his mouth formed an ‘o’ as he took in the words she said, a smile creeping up onto his face. “And don’t you for one second think that you can get rid of me that easily.” She tried to look menacing, wagging her finger at him, but with the cold nipping her cheeks and nose red she looked adorable. He took this moment to step closer to her, a smirk on his face as she huffed into the cold air; wrapping his arms around her waist and picking her up so she had no choice but to cling on for her life.

“Sonia Parker. I wouldn’t let you run even if you wanted to.” She took this as an indication to kiss him. But something was different this time around. Usually his body was filled with a warm buzz but today it was on fire. The intensity of the passion in the kiss ignited his bones with a sort of magnifying clarity. She was it. Sonia was his beacon of hope to cleanse his tainted aura. And he knew it was the same for her. His mind was flashing images, replays of the entire night, slowing done frame by frame, breaking down the walls, her walls, which she had placed up. Trust, friendship and honesty, it was the one thing he was looking for and he found it with her. He trusted her enough to tell him about his past and she trusted him enough to know he had changed. She listened to him, his story, and his worries, many times as he did hers. But most importantly there was the comfort that came with knowing she won’t lie to him. With another peck, she turned the door handle and walked in. He threat the muttering of excited voices on the other side before walking back to his cr and driving home in the silence.
