Jungkook patiently walked towards the beach, all the while eating some of his bread and cheese. It's great to have something to munch on while he's on his way. He couldn't wait to get there again.

The beach was the last place he went to before going home to sleep. It has always been his safe place, a place that calmed him whatever may come his way. It's like there was a presence that surrounds him whenever he goes there which gives him the calm he needs.

But the biggest reason why he never fails to go to the beach is to find someone he hasn't even seen before, but believes in his heart, exists.

It was something he has always done ever since his mother told him a very special story that easily made its way through his heart.

*******

"Jungkook! It's time for bed, come on." said a young boy's mother.

"Coming Eomma!" he answered back.

"Have you gotten ready for bed, Jungkook?" his mother asked.

"Yes Eomma! But I can not sleep yet, I'm not yet tired." He said to his eomma while jumping around the room, showing that no, he is not feeling sleepy at all.

His mother chuckled at his son's antics. She ruffled the boy's hair and pinched his cheeks.

"Alright, then I guess I might tell you a very special story." she told him, which earned her an eager nod from the boy. He stopped his jumping and went back to their bed. They settled down on the bed before his mother started her story.

It was said that when you happen to find one of the people of the sea, they will grant you one wish.

The people of the sea were said to have half a body of a human and half of a fish. They live in the ocean, while we humans live in land. We call them the 'mers', and they call us the ''humans', the people living on land.

Legends say that they have granted many wishes, small and huge alike. Some wished for wealth. Some wished for health. One even wished to have a pet donkey. They granted them in exchange for their freedom.

They say that when they still haven't granted a person's wish, they will be tied to that person and they will never be free until they do so. It goes the same if a special part of them is with that person.

But some of them, regardless of whether they have granted a wish, decide to stay, because their freedom is to be with the person they love, for their heart is already with that person.

Whatever the wish was, they made it come true. The mers were our friends, and we were their friends too.

But there also were people whose lives were led by greed.

Some people caught them on purpose. They knew that mers have no choice but to grant their wishes in order to be free even though they were just forced to do it.

And even after doing so, these cruel beings did not let them go, but instead, held them captive. The mers were truly such beautiful creatures, who were very pleasing to look at.

They were treated as objects, like they were decorations. Their feelings were disregarded, when it was a huge part of them. It did not bode well for them; their healths deteriorated.

For this very reason, the mers avoided going to the surface. The sightings of them decreased until the people of the land no longer knew of the mers' existence.

The people of the land and the people of the sea lived in peace, one race unaware of the other's existence and the other living in fear of another's knowledge of their existence.

"I do not like the bad people Eomma! They are not kind at all. They hurt the poor mers and I don't like them!" Jungkook said to his mother.

"Yes, they're very unkind. There was no one for them, which was why they did not survive." his mother said.

"Why did they not survive, Eomma?"

"Because it hurts them emotionally that no one is there to come save them, love them, and protect them." his mother explained.

Jungkook stood up and raised his right hand.
"I wish to meet a mer someday Eomma.. I will be their friend. I must protect them! I will love them with all my heart Eomma, so they will not get hurt!" Jungkook promised.

His mother kissed his head then ruffled his hair.

"Yes, son, I know you will."
