*Two days later*


I panted. Sweat ran down my forehead as the General scoffed at me.


"You're not good at all," he shook his head.


I'm satisfactory. They just have a screwed up way of fighting.


"Sorry I'm not living up to your expectations," I bit back.


"If this is what the Kings and Queens of Narnia fight like, we'll have no problems defeating them," he sneered.


I wanted to defend their honor, but it would be more fun for them to be surprised on the battlefield.


"Giving up on them already? Ha! This is wonderful. You'll be so much more obedient now that you've given up," he said.


"Hmm, yes. I suppose you're right. Obedience is key in battle," I recited like a zombie. He just grinned in response and ordered me to put my sword away.


"Glad you could see it OUR way," he patted me on the back. "Shall we go visit the Captain?"


I panicked.


"But I haven't done anything wrong!" I protested as he marched me down the hall toward the dreaded room of the Captain with the wandering hands.


"No," he said, "This visit is strictly to report success. You are going to meet some of the soldiers in a bit."


I sighed in relief, and I saw the corner of his mouth turn up a bit.


"We're not that cruel," he poked my shoulder, and despite his playful tone, I cringed away. He didn't seem to notice.


"Captain," he barks, "Introduce this woman to the rest of your infantry. Now."


"But is sh-"


"NOW."


"Yes, yes," the Captain said, "Right away." He took my arm and led me away.


As soon as we rounded the corner, his grip tightened and his face became annoyed.


"You better be worth all the trouble we're going through."


I didn't have a response to that.

"This is the most important man you need to know. He will give hidden signals."


All the names the Captain gave me to take in were crammed in my head. I had no idea who was who, but maybe if I remembered just this guy...?


"Ahh, so nice to see you, General."
