"What?" I say, confused about what Newt is talking about. I reach into my back pocket, and pull out a rectangular thing. It has multiple buttons on it. One button has a sideways triangle, one has two up and down lines next to each other, and one has a sideways line with a triangle on top. In the corner it says WCKD Walkman. My headpiece is connected to it. I look at the headpiece, which I've decided to call sound-phones, and put them on. Immediately a new song plays in my ears.

"Will all these things I wait for revelation
These things make me want to duck for cover
With all these things I wait for revolution
These things ask the biggest question to me
And it's are you what you want to be
So are you what you want to be?"

I push the sideways triangle, and nothing happens. I push the up and down lines, and the music stops. I push the triangle again and the music starts going again. I push the third button, and the music stops, and the spinning thingy in the Walkman popped out! I panic, shoving the thing back in, and press the triangle. The song resumes where it had stopped. There is one more button on the bottom left corner. It has a circle, but a little triangle is on part of it. When I press it, the whirly thingy inside spins the opposite direction it was originally going in. When it stops, it starts playing the first song I heard again. I stop it, and take my sound-phones off.

Every boy in the Glade is staring at me expectantly. "Um, it's a walkman, and it plays music out of these," I say, showing everyone my sound-phones. Newt grabs them, puts them on, and says, "Prove it plays music Greenie." I push the triangle, and his expression turns surprised. "It does! It really does!" Newt yells over the music. I stop it, and he gives my sound-phones back. "The creators gave that to you for a reason, Greenie. None of us shanks would have been able to figure out how to work that thing," Newt says to me.

Soon enough, everyone goes back to eating. Thomas looks at Newt and says to me, "Greenie, can I hear it?" I nod and give him the sound-phones. I press the triangle, which I've decided to call the play button. His eyes light up, and Minho grabs the sound-phones and puts them on. He looks surprised and gives them back. I stop the music, and put the walkman back in my pocket. I see my pants have a little thing that unbuttons and I put my sound-phones in between where it is stitched and where the button is, and snap the button back in place, and it holds them.

I finish my dinner (yes, I got seconds), and get a hammock and set it up in the big wooden building I've learned is called the Homestead. When I get back out, the boys have set up a giant bonfire. Most everyone is already gathered around it. I walk over, and see a circle of boys, with Gally and another boy in the middle. I look away as Gally shoves the boy out of the ring and yells in victory. Minho is sitting by himself, so I walk over to him. "Hey, can I sit here?" I ask him. "There is literally like, five empty logs, and you choose to sit next to me?" He replies. "Yeesh, sorry, Sass Queen," I sit down next to him, smiling. He rolls his eyes at me and smiles. "So, your the Greenie, huh?" He asks me. "Yeah, but nobody seems to like me very much. Except you and Newt. I guess Thomas seems nice, but I haven't talked to him yet, so I don't really know." I say to Minho. "I don't remember anything. Not even my name! And I'll tell you a secret—" He leans in so he can hear me whisper, "—I didn't even know what gender I was when I first got here." When Minho hears this, he laughs so hard he falls off the log. Everyone within a meter of him looks at him, and one boy even asks if he needs the Medjacks. Unfortunately, Gally hears him laughing, and looks over. He sees me and smirks. "Hey Greenie! Come into the ring!"
