I am only a human being and when I'm introduced to characters with similar names in the same chapter I get hella confused.
Like the female main character's best friend could be named Jake and her love interest is named Jace. All you have to do is replace the 'c' in Jace with a 'k' and you get Jake.
So for the next 10 chapters, I have to really concentrate to know whether it's Jake (bff) or Jace (love interest) being talked to or thought about.
I should probably make a book with tips on how to avoid writing mistakes.
So Authors young, new or old please try to Google some basic names that can be used for your characters. There are too many names in the world for things like this to be happening.
You can:
Google names
Use your relatives First and Middle Name
Use friends or schoolmates name (you don't even have to know them)
Baby Name Books
Make up one
There are too many choices for there to be characters that are NOT twins or related to be named Marc and Mark.
Like no.
This isn't funny. This is disastrous.
Update: I have actually stumbled upon an app that generates names. You can even pick a certain country and they will give names that are common to the culture and background of that country. I suggest you try to look for that app. I don't remember the name of the app though :( ...sad
