Aviana's POV
"Come on, Avi! I'm not running a daycare let's move it!" Tyler shouted, his lips pulling up into a devious smirk at my obvious suffering.
I bent down to my knees, huffing and panting to catch my breath. My lungs felt like they were on fire! "E-easy for you to- to say," I managed to rasp out, sweat gliding down my forehead. Apparently, being a warrior wolf was not as simple as I thought. The training was brutal and the mind tricks they played were so harsh, some wolves had to go to therapy after their training. I was just praying I wouldn't be one of those wolves.
My father felt the need to train me just as he trains every other wolf in his army. I've been awake for eight hours now, and no food had entered my system since yesterday afternoon. My lungs were burning and my stomach was protesting to the lack of nutrition that every few seconds it sounded like a dying whale.
Tyler suddenly came next to me, slapping me hard on the back. "Awh, come on now, Your Majesty. I'm just following orders." He chuckled.
I winced from the pain and glared down at his feet. Rage pooled into my eyes and I weakly pointed my finger at the ground.  With a mere flick, I sent a smoldering pile of flames down at his feet, to which he screamed like a little school girl and ran to the pond.
"Hey! You can't use your magic that's cheating Avi!" He whined, relief flooding his eyes once the flames dispersed.
After managing to catch my breath I stood back up. "Yeah, well maybe next time try going easier on me Ty. This training is a little too extensive for a girl who's just accessed her wolf yesterday!" My entire body was in pain and I knew damn well tomorrow morning was going to be even more hell than today. I was even wishing I were back in school. Anything was better than this!
Tyler walked back over to me, slinging his arm around me. The heat from his body onto mine sent a wave of pain to my head. I was in dire need of water. "Hey, you alright? You're looking a little pale, Avi."
I barked out a dry laugh. "Oh, yes Tyler, I am feeling fantastic. It's not like I've been deprived of food and water for nearly twenty-four hours or anything."
Tyler simply laughed. If I had to hear him laugh like that one more time I would be sending his body up in flames and Alison would have to be planning both of our funerals afterward.
"Alright, alright fine. I guess I've kept you long enough. Go get a drink and some food and then meet your dad in the yard. You have fifteen minutes, Avi." He smirked.
I sent another glare and made sure I didn't leave him without a proper thank you. With a flick of my wrist, another ball of flames was sent directed at his feet, and this time, it was my turn to smirk at the loud shriek he made.
I jogged back to the pack house, my lungs still burning from the workout. I truthfully had no idea how I was going to survive this sort of training. If this was what Tyler had to endure since he was sixteen I don't even what to know how much pain I'll be in by next week. So far, I didn't have a clue as to when the war would break out. It was almost summer though, and that alone got me in a ball of nerves. Actually, the entire situation had my blood boiling and on the hair on my skin prickling at the edges. I didn't want anyone to know but I was in fact scared out of my wits. I had no idea what to expect from the war. I had a fear I would never be ready for the war.
Not to mention Xavier. Ever since I had access to my wolf, she yearned for him. I kept trying to keep myself in check but even I couldn't help but feel a want for him. It sickened me that the Moon Goddess dare bless me with a mate when she knew I would probably end up dying. Mates with Xavier no less. He was cold, rude, arrogant, cocky,  hot-
No! Damnnit Avi. Keep it together you can't afford to become distracted.
I slumped against the bark of the tree as a raging headache came on. Before, I was heartbroken at the possibility of not ever getting a mate. But now that I had died and knew the reality of the situation, a mate was the last thing I needed. I had to talk to my mom to find out if there was something to be done. My heart ached at the thought of not being able to give Xavier a chance but there was simply too much to lose. He was more than likely going to be a willing participant in the war and if anything happened to him or me, it would hurt us both. It would jeopardize the prophecy.
"Aviana, dear. What's wrong?"It was if she read my thoughts and came beckoning to my call.
I looked up at her under my lashes. She was still beautiful as ever in the crystal blue gown she wore with her hair pinned up in an intricately placed bun. Her porcelain complexion stood out against the glowing aura that surrounded her. Her eyes glistened with concern.
"Nothing, mother. Just lost in thought," I finally answered.
She put her hands on her hips, jutting out her chin. "Is this about your mate, Xavier?"
I gasped, my eyes as wide as saucers. "How did-"
"You seem to forget your mother is a witch, Avi dear. Not to mention, you left your barrier open again. Your father and I have taught you many times to keep that closed. I don't understand how you forget," she snapped.
I furrowed my eyebrows, not understanding why she was so made. Sure I've left it open many times but it's difficult to do so when you're deep in thought and forget that anyone has the power to read-
"Close it. Now, Aviana." My mother glared and I flinched at her harsh tone.
Finally, I closed my eyes and carefully let the barrier close around my thoughts. It was like this huge wall enveloping your mind in a gentle hug- sealing away your thoughts from prying listeners. It didn't take long to learn how to close off the mind link from others. It was just remembering to do it I had trouble with.
My mother folded her arms across her chest, satisfied. "Yes, I know about Xavier. Not to worry, dear. I do have a spell. It won't reverse the Moon Goddess' deed but it will protect you. If he gets hurt, you won't feel it physically. Only mentally. It will be a stab at your chest whenever he gets hurt and vice versa. I need you not to let it get to you. If he gets hurt it will not weaken you. When you feel the pain in your heart do not let it distract you. We cannot afford distractions, Aviana. I agree. A mate is the last thing you need."
I tried very hard not to let her words affect me, but Goddess they did. They stung badly; like continuous punches to the gut. I had no idea why she was so angry at the moment but I knew asking would only extend her anger.
She closed her eyes, beginning to mumble incoherently beneath her breath. The spell worked its magic. It was though there was a second barrier protecting my soul. For a moment I almost felt invincible.
She opened her eyes, nodding her head. "Go eat. Your father is waiting for you." Then, she turned on her heel back to the pack house. Something was really bothering her and I really needed to ask my dad about it when I saw him soon.

As soon as I finished my burger, fries, and a shake I headed to the backyard. My dad was already there, waiting patiently like some obedient dog. He glanced up when he saw me descending down the porch to meet with him. A small smile graced his lips.
"Aviana. I hope your training went well."
I mentally cringed at the statement. My body was still humming with pain from Tyler's intense workout. I had no idea how much pain this shift was going to do to me and I was slightly scared I was going to die again. I really did not want to be left in a black hole of nothingness for 48 hours again.
"It went great dad. Though Tyler might be a little slow on his feet for some time," I grinned.
My dad smirked, shaking his head at me. "Yes, Tyler told me all about you cheating with your magic. While it was humorous, I cannot allow you to use any of your magic from now on when it comes to training with us. Save your magic for your mother."
At the mention of my mother, I cocked my head to the side. "Speaking of mother, what's got her so mad today?"
My dad simply sighed. "She won't tell me. Though I have an inkling it has something to do with the war. She's probably scared about what could happen in the outcome. Though we all have faith in you, Avi. None of us want to lose you. Your mother is most likely becoming angry because she doesn't want to see you get hurt. You now have your wolf. We weren't anticipating your wolf finally joining your soul until you were at least twenty-one. We thought we had more time. Your mother thought you had more time."
My lips twisted into a deep frown. I didn't expect to get my wolf for awhile either, but I suppose the Moon Goddess had other plans. I placed my arms around dad's shoulders, embracing him in a tight hug. "Well you guys shouldn't worry. If you have faith that everything will work out just fine, then it will." I smiled.
He smiled back. "Now, enough with this. I'm going to need you to shift, Aviana. Don't worry. I'll help you."
I frowned, my insides churning. Please do not let me die again.

Truth be told, the shift wasn't as painful as I expected it to be. Everything went according to plan and though the pain was excruciating when my bones were being altered into the shape of a wolf, dad said it would soon fade and I'd get used to it after a few more shifts.
When dad shifted into his Alpha wolf, he took off in a sprint together. I was grateful he slowed down for me because I was not yet used to walking on all fours. In fact, I was clumsy and kept tripping on sticks and branches. My furry legs were weak and awkward as they attempted to keep up with my dad's long strides.
Finally, after some time we made it to a pond to rest and get some water. I timidly walked up to the water, my snout raised to sniff it. The water touched my nose and I recoiled back, wiping my nose on my fur. Then, my eyes caught sight of my reflection. I had not yet seen what I looked like in wolf form.

I was no taller than a Beta wolf. My fur was as black as the night itself with one deep purple streak along my back. That one purple streak was what gave me away as part witch. At least, that's what I thought. I stared at myself in awe for awhile longer. I couldn't wait to become accustomed to my wolf and be able to go on proper runs with my dad and friends.
My dad nudged me with his snout.
'It's getting late, Avi. Let's go back to the house.'
I nodded my head, turning around. I know my dad expected us to walk back to be nice to me but I was beginning to feel a new rush coming.
I took off into a sprint, leaving my dad behind. I was glad I didn't trip on anything, for I was beginning to get used to the four legs that supported me. I knew this wasn't my top speed but I'd learn in time to run faster.
The wind running through my soft fur was a hug from the Moon Goddess Herself. It was a gentle sensation just brimming above my skin which set my heart skyrocketing with joy. Suddenly, I could smell him. It was as if he was nearby; so close.  A sudden image of Xavier flashes through my mind and my wolf howled. I knew she wanted to see him badly. So did I. In fact, I was just about to let my wolf take off further in a hunt for our mate when I heard it-
"Alpha Alexander! We need you now!"
My father wasted no time. He was sprinting past me like lightning in a matter of seconds. It was getting darker and I could no longer see his figure through the woods. I decided to let my nose lead the way and I quickly followed my father's scent until I emerged from the woods.
I quickly shifted back to my human self, throwing on my blue tank top and leggings, before jogging to the border where my father was. He was talking to three other border patrol guards. One of them held a girl in their arms. I walked closer.
She looked no older than fifteen- sixteen maybe. What looked to be blood soaked her forehead along with smudges of mud. Her red vibrant hair was a bird's nest atop her head.
"Ma'am, I', going to have to ask who you are," my father was always polite when it came to girls.
The girl weakly opened her eyes, her deep hazel eyes peering straight at me. "I'm Alyssa Rivers. From the Blue Moon Pack. The Rogues seized my pack and I had to run I'm so sorry." She cried, and my heart sank for her.
"Can you tell me who was chasing you, Alyssa?" My dad asked gently.
She looked at me, not missing a beat. "Xavier King."
