Chapter 7
Oro Valley, Arizona. Right outside of Tucson. I quickly remembered learning about this place at school. It was voted one of the bet places to live in the states. Why would there be danger here? We turned left and continued down the road.
We made a right turn and pulled up to a gate. A huge stone sign was in front of it that read The Estates at Blossom Tree Ridge. Rob said something to the guard who, in turn, let us pass through the gate. We continued driving making three more turns when finally the car slowed down and pulled into a huge, beautiful house. It was brick, not the red kind more gray/beige color. At first I thought it was a ranch house but we pulled into the drive and turned the corner into a huge courtyard! The actual house was behind what I originally saw, the garage. The enormous garage was attached to the house by a walkway that enclosed the courtyard. The house itself was beautiful; it had a grand staircase that led up to the two double entry doors. The house is three stories tall with what looks like floor-to-ceiling windows on the first floor. I stood there just taking it all in.
“Kaylia? Sorry, Andie, are you ready to go in? You can still stay at the hotel if you want.” Rob said worriedly while interrupting my thoughts.
“What? Oh no, I’m fine. It’s just a lot to take in. I’m ready.” I replied, giving him a reassuring smile. I followed Rob up the steps with my suitcase in my hand, really truly feeling like an orphan. He opened the door for me and I stepped inside, trying not to gasp.
The inside was ten times more beautiful than the outside was; it had gorgeous hardwood floors, a two-story entryway, and remarkable furniture. I walked in expecting to see the family or anyone at least, but no one was there. Rob told me that something came up and that they would meet me before dinner. He showed me to my room, we went up the stairs, turned left, went down the huge hallway overlooking the first floor, turned right, went down another hallway, turned right again and finally entered a room at the end of the hallway. I noticed there was a small set of stairs going up and down across from my room.
Entering the room I could immediately tell it was a guest bedroom. It had its own bathroom, which was nice. There were two windows facing the side yard and two windows looking out into the backyard where there was a pool and hot tub and a patio. You could see the golf course out way past the patio. I could also see they had a beautiful garden filled with flowers in the side yard. The room itself had light pale blue walls, hardwood flooring like the rest of the house and red accents. The bed was a blue with red accents and there were red rugs on the floor. The bathroom was the exact same.
“The Mrs.’ hopes that you find the room to your liking. Dinner will be at 19:30, she said it was semi-formal; which means a dress and heels. I was also told to inform you about the intercom system. Every room in the house in every hallway there is an intercom. As you can see it is a white box. To make a call just press the call button and select where in the house you would like to page. When you have an incoming call it will beep. Any questions just call down to the kitchen, my room, or the office.” Rob told me.
“Alright, thank you very much. See you at dinner.” With that Rob left the room.
I really wanted to explore the house and figure out where everything was. I looked at the clock and realized it was already 18:15; dinner was at approximately 19:30. I went and took a shower, did my hair, put a little bit of make-up on and all that fun stuff. I left my hair pretty natural, I just put some product in to make the ends wavy, and a little red bow to keep it out of my face. My dress was black with a floral print; I had black wedges and some simple pearl jewelry. I look at the clock and its 7:20. Perfect! Right on time. Now, I wonder if I should go downstairs or should I wait here. Oh! I can always call downstairs… I’ll call Rob. Okay, now he said to push the call button and select the room. Hmm, I’m guessing it’s he is ‘Rob’s Room’. Well, here goes nothing!
