Chapter 8

It’s not that I didn’t know what to say, I just was not expecting this so soon. I guess this is an honest family.

“I said why are you here? Don’t you have friends or relatives that will take you? And where are your parents?” Nic repeats.

Seriously, he needs to chill out. Well, here goes nothing…

“Um, no. My mother died and my Father disappeared on a business trip. I don’t have any relatives, just my Grandparents but they died a while ago.” I said, knowing that was a good answer.

“Oh, sorry. How can you not know ANY of our music?”

“I love older music, it has soul and meaning, and doesn’t give you a headache listening to unlike shitty pop nowadays.” I shot back. This kid is starting to get on my nerves.

“Dude, stop. We are happy to have Andie here with us. It doesn’t really matter if she does or does not know the songs we wrote. Plus, we both know we draw our inspiration from the music gods from back in the day.” Teddy said defending me.

I gave him a small smile and looked out my window. We drove in silence the rest of the way there. We pulled into a parking lot with a sign that said The Keg Steakhouse and Bar. Yum! I love this place already. I was about to get out of the car when I felt someone grab my arm. I turned around and it was Teddy.

“Hey, Andie, can I talk to you for a sec?” he asked.

“Of course.” I replied.

“Look, I’m sorry about earlier. Nic has a lot of stress going on in his life right and is always really moody. It’s just hard for him to deal with everything. He’s probably just bitter about having some random person waltz into our family. We’re all excited that you are here.” He said sincerely.

“It’s alright, I understand everyone has those times. Now, let us go and eat. I’m starving!” I say and walk into the restaurant with Teddy following.

This is turning out to be the weirdest day ever. Being with this family is like a regular day at school; there’s a ton of unnecessary drama! I wonder what Nic is stressing about; maybe it’s something I should look into. I don’t even really know what I’m looking for though; I wonder what the threats are?

We got into the restaurant and sat down right away. I guess if you’re famous you never have to wait. From then on everything seemed normal; Mr. Holland cracked embarrassing jokes that weren’t funny but you had to laugh anyway; Mrs. Holland kept bringing up old memories and weird but sort of interesting stories; Kendall looked like he wanted to be somewhere else, Teddy almost fell asleep, and Nic had a worried but mad look on his face and of course all three of them were texting under the table; I knew this because every now and then Teddy would smile and then quickly try to hide it, Kendall would give a small laugh and then turn it into a yawn or cough, and Nic would just get an even madder face then look around to see if anyone noticed.  I was trying to pay attention, I really was, and I know I’m being a bad spy not listening to them but watching the boys’ behavior, or more specifically Nic’s somewhat worried me. It only bothered me because I would catch his family looking at him with major concern. Suddenly I saw a plant move to my right. Nonchalantly I studied everything to my right when right at that moment I saw her. The woman I had been seeing everywhere and in my dreams. The one with the olive skin tone, short black hair and green eyes. Although she had on a hat, a blonde wig and glasses but I could tell it was her. Before I could excuse myself to the bathroom, Mrs. Holland started talking to me.
