Chapter 10

I did a lot of thinking on the plane, okay well I did more sleeping than thinking but that is beside the point. Teddy and Kendall were texting the whole entire time, I know Teddy has a girlfriend, everyone knows that. He met her while visiting Puerto Rico. She is 20 years old, like him, has reddish-brown hair, brown eyes, and is like an aspiring model or something like that, she isn’t really famous though, besides being with him. But I wonder who Kendall was texting? Hmm, it probably wasn’t important, he is only twelve… I can hack into the phone company, access his account and then I’d be able to read his messages! Wait that probably sounds bad… ha-ha Maybe I’ll just see who he sent them too.

I can’t believe I’m about to say this but I miss my school. It’s my home. It’s the one place I can go where I’ll always be safe and belong. Before I know it the pilot tells us the plane is landing in ten minutes at the Orlando Airport. As we prepare for landing, I decide to change my clothes in an airport bathroom, just to be on the safe side. You never know who is following you or why, and I definitely don’t need anyone associating me with the Hollands or my school, for that matter.

I got off the plane and into the terminal; I headed straight for the nearest bathroom. On the way there a lady bumped into me, almost knocking me down. She said sorry and hurried away but she seemed strangely familiar… My spy training has taught me if someone feels familiar, then you’ve seen or met him or her before. It doesn’t matter how much they change their appearance or their identity. I was a little worried about then, why would someone I know be here? It’s not like I know THAT many working operatives, let alone ones who would be in Orlando. I really need to stop making myself nervous. I really do.

Quickly I went into the bathroom stall and changed. I put on my dark coral color shorts, green striped shirt with a navy Mickey Mouse print (Hey, I’m in Orlando! I thought it was a good cover… you know Disney World is there?), off-white bow belt, navy blue Toms (to match the Mickey), and a coral headband to match my shorts. I think I look pretty darn good for changing in less than a minute in a tiny bathroom stall! Not to brag or anything… ha.

Going back out into the terminal it feels like someone is watching me. I scan my surrounding without missing a beat in my step, spy training you know. There. I see him. The boy who is staring at me. About 5’8”, long (for a guy) and messy chestnut brown hair, brown eyes, olive skin tone, lean, has noticeable muscles, almost looks to be a soccer or lacrosse player. I’m guessing around 18 or 19 years old. No accompaniment and just one duffel-like bag. He looks exactly like a typical teenage boy. Except five minutes before I noticed him when I was getting off the plane, (How could I not?) and he had shorter messy golden blonde hair and emerald green eyes. Unless he had a twin, it was obviously the same guy. And now considering the fact that he is pulling every trick in the book not to be seen while following me (which isn’t working), I am certain it’s the same guy. First the woman and now him. This is just great. How am I supposed to find Phil, the pilot, and get on the plane home to school? Thank goodness I have excellent operative training! I used almost every trick in the book to lose my tail. It took about twenty minutes, twelve to lose him and eight to make sure he was really gone, eight stores and three purchases for disguises and I was finally good to meet Phil. This boy was good. He had to be government trained. But he showed signs of school training. Which was impossible, I would have definitely recognized him if he had ever gone to my school.

I crossed my fingers that I wouldn’t lead anyone to the meeting place, rushing to it. I was about fifteen minutes late. Now in the spy world, every minute is valuable. The later and later you show up, the more likely it is that you got killed or taken hostage. Now I hope Phil wasn’t worried about that I mean come on, would you suspect a seventeen year-old girl to be a spy? I didn’t think so. Thankfully, Phil didn’t ask any questions. As soon as he saw me he motioned for me to follow him at a distance. We went through a door that read ‘Airport Staff Only’ and followed that hallway until it ended at another door. I walked through to find myself outside and Phil waiting there for me.

“I trust your mission was successful?” he asked.

“Yes sir, it was.” I replied.

“That’s good to hear. The plane is right over there. May I take your suitcase?”

“Oh, thank you sir.” He is a sir to me because if he’s working at Loch then you know he’s pretty important and good. Only a select few get the privilege of working at Loch. They must be the best of the best to even be considered.

Once we board we immediately take off, the co-pilot already had most everything ready. Don’t ask me why but for some reason every time I get on a plane it makes me tired. I mean seriously, put me on a plane by myself with no one to talk to and I’m out in twenty minutes tops. No joke. I fell asleep and had the same old weird dream I have been having for while…

“Ah, there you are. We’ve been looking for you Kaylia.”

“What? Who are you? Wait. I’ve seen you before… You were on my last mission! You were the lady who tailed me!”

“You are so innocent and unknowing. It’s too funny. I wasn’t your tailer Ms. Bellwood.  It’s been my mission to find and capture you. We need you. You’re time has run out, the…”

I woke up with a start. My dream always leaves off at the same exact place, it drives me insane! The school is about five minutes away, let’s see, it’s in the middle of 2nd hour now. At least I won’t be missing too much class today. Usually it’s unheard of a student ever missing class. Ever. Me leaving came as much of a shock to me as it did everyone else. I’m thankful for my friends who covered for me and said that I was allowed to visit my dad ‘cause I never see him. Which is true, I never see him but I wouldn’t actually have been allowed to go see him, but nobody knows that. The boy and woman at the airport kind of freak me out. Why would they be following me? Well, I guess the lady wasn’t but still, I KNOW her. She almost reminds me of… no., it couldn’t be. Could it? I mean her face looks somewhat the same… and she could always have fake noses and ears… she was obviously wearing a wig and contacts… oh my god. It is her. She is the same woman from my dream. I’ve seen the woman from my dream before, I just don’t remember where. The lady at the airport was clearly her! What does this mean? I don’t know if I should tell someone, maybe Headmaster Morganfeld? No, I can’t tell him, he’ll take me off my mission. All the teachers will just tell Headmaster anyway, my dad is unreachable right now… and if I tell my friends they will surely know I wasn’t with my dad. I can’t tell anybody.

“Kaylia, we’ve landed, you are free to leave the plane.”
