I had lost both Alaska and Zoe after half an hour there. I walked around looking for Jack. Parties were the only place where Jack and I could hang out and no one would bat an eye. I found him with Johnson, Sam Wilkinson, another kid in our class, and some people I knew from school but didn't know their names. I wasn't sure if I should walk over there by them or not. Johnson probably knew about us because of basketball but I didn't know about Sam or the others.
I played it safe and went to get a drink. I knew I shouldn't drink because I was the driver but I didn't care. I didn't want to just stand around, looking like a lost puppy, and I didn't want to find Zoe or Alaska.
I was downing my first drink when Johnson started walking this way.
"Hey Lakyin," he said, getting himself a drink, "how's your ankle?"
"It's better now," I shrugged, "It still hurts if I move it wrong."
Johnson nodded and started drinking from his cup.
"Jack is looking for you," he told me when he stopped drinking, "He was over that way."
So he did know about us. I nodded and started walking over to where he had pointed. I felt a hand grab my shoulder and I jumped. I turned to see it was just Jack.
"You scared me," I laughed.
"I saw that," he laughed, too.
"So you told Jack about us?" I asked.
"Yeah he's been my best friend since Kindergarten. We tell each other everything."
I nodded, "Want a drink?"
"Yeah lets go."
Jack poured himself a drink and I decided I probably shouldn't. I knew Alaska and Zoe and figured it was better for there to be someone who could drive home.
"I can't drink anymore. I'm the driver. Woo," I said sarcastically.
"Best job. Especially when you were the one who wanted to come here," Jack teased.
"I know. But I really don't want to total my car. Or die," I pointed out.
"Good point. It would be pretty bad if anyone died."
"I agree. So did you tell anyone else about us?"
"Nope. Just Jack," Jack smiled.
"What does Jack think about it?"
"He doesn't really care. He knows I like you he just thinks we should be public," Jack shrugged.
"I wish we could be public. Not just hang out at parties," I rolled my eyes.
It wasn't exactly the best date ever. But then again it could be a whole lot worse.
"Me too."
I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and looked at it. Zoe had texted me.
I need your help. I'm in the bathroom. Now.
"I need to go help Zoe with something," I told Jack, standing up from where I was sitting.
"I'll go with you," he stood up too.
We walked to the bathroom and I saw Zoe splashing water on her face.
"Zoe," I said.
She jumped and looked over at me. Blood was running out of her nose and my eyes got wide as I saw it.
"What happened?"
"I wouldn't have sex with some guy, I don't know who it was, and he hit me a couple times," Zoe explained.
