Today was the last basketball game of the season and I couldn't be happier. It meant that I could get my helix pierced tomorrow. Normal people wouldn't be freaking out as much as I was but I had wanted this since I was fourteen.
After the final bell rang I waited for Alaska by her locker. She was taking longer than usual and I was impatient. A couple minutes later I saw Alaska walking to her locker.
"Where have you been?" I asked when she finally got to her locker.
"Long story," she said and I gave her a look, "Okay I was talking to someone."
"Who?" I asked, intrigued. Alaska has had boyfriends before but she never kept them from me.
"It's not important," she said, confirming my thought that it was a boy.
"Whatever floats your boat," I said and both of us rolled our eyes.
"Let's just go get ready for the game," Alaska said and we started towards the locker room.

"So happy that was the last game," I said, panting.
"Me too," Alaska nodded, also panting.
I pulled off my jersey and put on a University of Kansas shirt and Alaska gave me a weird look and I just shrugged. I too off my shorts and replaced them with a pair of black sweatpants. I re-did my ponytail since most of my hair had fallen out of it.
"Ready?" I asked Alaska as I slipped on a pair of tennis shoes.
"Yeah. Give me a second," she was finishing putting her hair in a braid.
When she was done she stood up and we both grabbed our bags. We walked back out to the gym. The boys varsity game was still going on. We sat with some of the other girls from the team, although we didn't say much to them. We were good friends with most of them but that didn't mean we talked to them all the time.
"So tell me who this boy is that you were talking to," I said as we were watching the game.
"Who said it was a boy?" she asked, not looking away from the game.
"I know it was a boy. And a boy you like. Or else you'd tell me."
"Okay fine. It's Jack Johnson," Alaska sighed, "But nothing's happening between us."
"He's dating Mallory, isn't he?" I asked looking over at where she was sitting.
"Yeah. We're just friends. I just didn't see the point in telling you if we were just friends," she shrugged.
I nodded, "Makes sense."
We sat there in silence, watching the game, until my phone buzzed, telling me I had a text message.
Meet me by the front office, it was Jack.
"I have to go do something," I said standing up, "I'll be right back."
"Okay," Alaska didn't even give me a second glance.
I walked out of the gym and down the halls. When I got close to the office I saw Jack leaning against a wall on his phone.
"Hey," I said, causing him to jump a little.
"Hey," he smiled at me.
"Why did you chose to meet at the office? We're not supposed to be here. What if we get cau-" I was interrupted by Jack putting his hands on my cheeks and kissing me.
"We'll be fine. No one will know we were here," Jack said.
I nodded. After that I didn't really care.
