[later that night]

"Nick," Olivia said through the comms. "Where are you?"

I looked around to see where I was in the ballroom. I was wearing a small wireless earpiece to communicate with her.

"I'm standing about 10 metres away from the king and queen," I informed her.

"Got it," she said. "Are you wearing your glasses right now?"

"Yes," I said.

"Great," Olivia said, "let's go through the plan again. You're going to bump into Duke Riche Hawthorne in the middle of his dance with the princess and take a chance to dance with and seduce her to buy me time to sneak out and find the secret passageway to go underground."

"Understood," I said.

Attending galas like these was something normal for me. I disliked them a lot as a child. I found them boring, and thought that I could do so many other things than engaging in what they call the "social battlefield" and "die" of embarrassment if any interaction goes awry. I took my glasses off. 

All I had to do was ask the princess for a dance.
